A Texas man is behind bars after allegedly confessing to the brutal killing of his roommate and dumping her body off a bridge, bringing a tragic end to a months-long missing persons case.
Dennis William Day, 66, has been charged with murder in connection with the disappearance of 47-year-old Rana Nofal Soluri, a flight attendant who vanished in March. Her co-worker finally reported her missing earlier this month after growing increasingly concerned that she hadn’t returned to work following a minor surgery.
What began as a routine wellness check quickly unraveled into a full-blown homicide investigation.
According to police, Soluri hadn’t been seen since March 21 — the same day she stopped responding to messages mid-conversation. Despite her absence, no missing persons report was filed for weeks, partially because she had taken an official leave from work.
Authorities zeroed in on Day early in the investigation. He told officers that Soluri had been his roommate and a longtime friend, but claimed he hadn’t seen her in nearly three months. Still, red flags were everywhere.
Police noted that Soluri’s brand-new vehicle had been abandoned at Day’s home and hadn’t moved in two months. Her belongings were stuffed into a storage shed. And when detectives searched her phone records, they discovered her final location was just five miles from home — around the same time she vanished.
The break in the case came on June 23, when police obtained surveillance footage showing Day dragging what appeared to be a lifeless body from the house into the backyard late on the night of March 21. After that, the recording stopped for several days.
Once confronted with the footage, Day allegedly admitted everything.
He told investigators that Soluri had recorded him and threatened to call police, which triggered him to “snap.” He confessed to strangling her on the kitchen floor, dragging her body outside, and disabling the security system to cover it up. He later stuffed her into a black trash bin and dumped her over a bridge in Bowie, a small town about 70 miles northwest of Fort Worth. Her cellphone, he said, was thrown into a river.
While Day directed authorities to several bridge locations, Soluri’s body has yet to be recovered. Her handgun has since been found, based on information he provided.
Day is currently being held in the Tarrant County Jail on $200,000 bond. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities search for Soluri’s remains and seek closure in a case that began with silence and ended in tragedy.
