A Pennsylvania man has been charged with murder after his missing wife was discovered stuffed inside a metal box on property he once owned, in what police are calling a gruesome and calculated killing.
Vincent Harp, 37, was arrested Sunday and hit with charges of criminal homicide, abuse of a corpse, and tampering with evidence following the discovery of his wife, 33-year-old Katlyn Harp, whose remains were found that same day inside a green metal box emitting a “strong smell of decomposition.”
Katlyn had been missing since June 20. Her sister reported her disappearance after she suddenly stopped responding to messages — something family members said was completely out of character. Investigators also noted that Katlyn’s Life360 tracking app stopped updating the night she vanished.
Vincent Harp initially told police that the couple had argued after dinner on June 19, and when he woke up the next morning, she was gone. But as the investigation unfolded, police said Harp gave “inconsistent” stories about where he was and what he had done in the hours surrounding her disappearance.
One particularly suspicious detail emerged from a gas station stop on June 20. A cashier told investigators that Harp asked if the store sold gloves. When told they didn’t, he reportedly asked for a pair from the staff — which he was given — and then left in a silver Chevy Silverado. That same truck was later caught on camera with a large green box in the bed.
Investigators dug into Harp’s phone records and GPS data, revealing multiple trips across rural Pennsylvania in different vehicles. On June 20, Harp was tracked to a remote mountain road where his car got stuck in the mud, leaving drag marks into the woods. When questioned, police said he “couldn’t explain” what he was doing in the area.
Days later, another red flag appeared when a utility vehicle Harp recently sold tested positive for human blood.
The break in the case came Sunday when authorities searched a property on Harp Lane, which once belonged to Vincent Harp. With the new owners’ permission, officers searched the grounds and located a large green box. Inside were human remains — later identified as Katlyn Harp thanks to a recognizable tattoo.
Phone data placed Vincent Harp at the scene on June 21, and again later that evening. Police say the evidence leaves little doubt.
He was arrested, denied bail, and is currently behind bars awaiting his next court appearance scheduled for July 14.
This case is still developing, and more details are expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
