Michelle Obama is probably the only Democrat who could have defeated President Donald Trump in 2024, but she’s more interested in exploring the culture of Black women than talking about Trump all the time.
Her popular new podcast “IMO” with her brother Craig Robinson features celebrity guests speaking to cultural issues, which sometimes touch on the political but mostly don’t.
The most recent episode was titled “Put the Phones Away with Jonathan Haidt,” so you can see what the angle is. Her 260,000 YouTube subscribers probably make her and her brother a nice six-figure income, in addition to the millions she gets from Netflix, bestselling books, and speaking engagements.
Obama had to have watched her husband get torn to shreds by critics when he was president. She obviously doesn’t think the power is worth that kind of day-to-day abuse.
Making bank
She’s just making bank and keeping her nose relatively clean, and who can blame her?
Democrats need to let go of the idea she will save them from Trump–if it didn’t happen in 2024, it almost certainly never will.
The podcast has provided lots of fodder for those who want to know what happened behind the scenes of Barack Obama’s presidential run and how she feels about being married to him, then and now.
In one episode, she credits her brother with helping convince her to support Barack’s run for president.
“I mean, we knew Barack was smart and, you know, ambitious,” Obama said to her brother. “But you talked me into supporting his run, and he was smart enough to know that he needed to come to you and sell you on the idea.”
At first she was against it and told Barack, “We’ve done enough crazy stuff.”
“Freedom”
Obama also said she has entered a new era of “freedom” with her husband out of office and her daughters out of the home as adults.
“I feel like at 60, this is the first time where all my decisions are for me,” she said on June 19 to radio show host Angie Martinez.
Many of her comments have been interpreted as distancing from her husband, with some rumors of a pending divorce swirling after she skipped out on Jimmy Carter’s funeral and Trump’s inauguration.
So far, no official split has happened, but the couple spends a lot of time apart pursuing their divergent interests.
