Georgia conservative firebrand Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene on Tuesday celebrated the Senate’s removal of an artificial intelligence (AI) provision from its version of the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” stating the decision was a “huge win for federalism.”
Greene had been pushing the Senate and fellow lawmakers to remove the moratorium since it passed the House last month. Greene initially voted for the bill with the provision intact, but quickly regretted the vote when she heard about the measure.
The effort to remove the moratorium was championed in the Senate by Tennessee GOP Sen. Marsha Blackburn, who initially supported updating the language on AI to reduce a ban on states regulating AI down from 10 years to five years. But she pulled her entire support on Monday night, because the language did not go far enough.
“I told the White House I couldn’t support the One Big Beautiful Bill with the AI moratorium inside,” Greene posted to X. “Banning states from regulating AI for 10 years is a gift to Big Tech and a disaster for American workers and states’ rights. Thanks to Senator Marsha Blackburn we got it OUT. That’s a huge win for federalism and the America First agenda.”
