HOWLAND TOWNSHIP, OH – A Cessna 441 twin-engine plane crashed into a wooded area behind a residence early this morning, leading to road closures and a significant investigation. The crash occurred near King Graves and Henhide Roads, prompting an immediate response from multiple agencies.
Residents reported hearing a loud explosion around 6:57 a.m., followed by a call to emergency services. Responders quickly discovered the wreckage in the woods off Spring Run Road. The Youngstown Reserve Station assisted with extinguishing the fire.
Nearby residents were startled by the incident, noticing power outages and a large plume of smoke. One witness described seeing firefighters rushing towards a nearby house, initially fearing a house fire.
Authorities confirmed that the plane was carrying six individuals, including two crew members and four passengers. Tragically, local officials later announced that there were no survivors. The victims’ bodies have been recovered and are now with the coroner’s office.
The flight was en route to Bozeman, Montana, and crashed only seven minutes after takeoff. Officials noted that, despite the tragedy, the situation could have been worse, as the crash site was in close proximity to several homes.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) are leading the investigation to uncover the cause of the crash. As this is a developing story, additional details may emerge.
