Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry today signed a pro-life bill into law to help shore up the state’s abortion ban that helps women and protects unborn babies. Landry signed the Justice for Victims of Abortion Drug Dealers Act (HB 575) into law at a signing ceremony today.
HB 575 by Reps. Lauren Ventrella and Julie Emerson empowers Louisiana citizens harmed by abortion to file lawsuits against abortion drug dealers who unlawfully sell abortion services, including predators and abusers.

Executive Director for Louisiana Right to Life, Benjamin Clapper, said the following after the legislative passage of the bill:
We applaud the Louisiana Senate for passing these two pro-life bills that continue Louisiana’s legacy of defending life and protecting women from the abortion industry. The reckless sale of abortion pills by out-of-state businesses have led to increased instances of women being coerced to have abortions. HB 575 and HB 425 strengthen laws to prevent coerced abortion and allow women hurt by abortion to seek justice.
Contrary to Senator Duplessis’ statements on the Senate floor, the word “promoting” was removed from HB 575 in a Senate committee amendment. Therefore, a lawsuit brought under HB 575 cannot be for brought against someone “promoting” the availability of an abortion.
We are grateful for the dedication of Senator Rick Edmonds who boldly defended HB 575 from pro-abortion attacks and Senator Brach Myers for promoting HB 425.
Louisiana Right to Life is committed to a future where women and girls are safe from the predatory tactics of the abortion industry and can pursue justice for themselves and their families.
“This new law allows mothers to hold the abortion industry accountable for the harm they cause on them and their families,” the pro-life group said about the new law.
The bill is a response to pro-abortion states like New York that are protecting abortion pill seller from accountability for killing babies and hurting women.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul is covering up for an abortionist who is illegally selling abortion pills in pro-life states.
A Louisiana woman killed her 20-week-old unborn baby with the abortion pill and threw her baby in a garbage can.

That’s the shocking story from a pro-life state where officials are pursing potential charges against a New York abortionist who is violating the state’s pro-life law to illegally mail abortion pills to women.
Louisiana’s attorney general mentioned the shocking case during testimony yesterday in the state legislature. She also highlighted New York-based abortionist Margaret Carpenter, who is now under investigation again for selling the abortion pill used to kill the baby.
Carpenter allegedly mailed the abortion drug to another woman in the state, this time located in the city of Shreveport. The Shreveport woman was 20 weeks pregnant when she took the abortion medication and subsequently went into labor, Attorney General Liz Murrill said during a testimony for a pro-life bill.
But Hochul is protecting the abortionist from being held accountable and says she won’t sign any extradition order making it so Louisiana can enforce its law.
“We’re not going to stop trying to extradite her and prosecute her for the crimes that she’s committing in our state,” she said, referring to Carpenter.
“Anti-choice zealots can file as many cases as they want. In New York, we protect our providers,” the governor posted to X.
“Let me be clear: we will never comply with Louisiana’s extradition request. Not now, not ever.”
A Louisiana grand jury indicted Carpenter in January for violating a state law after she illegal mailed an abortion pill to another Louisiana resident.
Hochuel refused to help Louisiana with that indictment as well. And the new bill would give victims the ability to bring lawsuits against those abortion pill sellers.
