A medical negligence lawsuit filed against an Illinois abortionist alleges a botched abortion so severely mishandled that half of an unborn baby’s body was left inside a woman’s, requiring emergency surgery to address life-threatening complications.
The case, has sparked outrage among pro-life advocates who cite it as evidence of the dangers inherent in abortion procedures.
The plaintiff, identified as Jane Doe to protect her privacy, underwent an abortion on April 1 and 2, 2023, at Equity Clinic in Champaign, Illinois. Done by Dr. Keith Reisinger-Kindle, according to the lawsuit filed in the Circuit Court of Champaign County, the abortionist perforated the woman’s uterus, leaving a hole “about the size of a quarter or half-dollar” and failing to remove significant portions of the 22-week-old unborn child’s body, including most of the baby’s torso, spine, and parts of the arms.
The lawsuit claims the abortionist instructed Doe to take Tylenol and laxatives when she reported severe cramps, delaying critical medical attention.

The surgeon at the hospital where the woman received emergency care noted that a CAT scan revealed what appeared to be a human body, with a visible spine, inside the woman’s pelvis.
Pieces of the baby’s skull had adhered to the woman’s intestines, the surgeon added.
The lawsuit further alleges that Reisinger-Kindle and Equity Clinic failed to provide adequate follow-up care, exacerbating Doe’s suffering. When she sought emergency treatment, surgeons discovered the extent of the damage, including severe trauma to the unborn child’s remains.
On April 5, the woman required emergency surgery to remove the remaining baby parts. A medical report by an obstetrician/gynecologist, included in the court filings, states that Reisinger-Kindle “deviated from a reasonable standard of care” by perforating the uterus, failing to recognize the injury, and not thoroughly examining the baby’s remains post-procedure. The report asserts that an adequate examination would have revealed the incomplete abortion.
The lawsuit further claims that Reisinger-Kindle refused to provide information to a surgeon involved in the emergency procedure, citing patient privacy, though he later spoke with Doe without mentioning the earlier conversation. The plaintiff, a mother of four, is seeking unspecified damages for the physical and emotional toll of the ordeal.
Reisinger-Kindle opened Equity Clinic in 2022 following the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, which shifted abortion regulation to the states. Illinois has since become a hub for out-of-state abortions, with nearly 17,000 women traveling to the state in 2022 alone, according to the Illinois Department of Public Health.
This case echoes other reported incidents of botched abortions. In February 2025, LifeNews.com reported that a Planned Parenthood clinic in Virginia allegedly failed to remove all of the baby;s body during an abortion, later inserting an IUD into the still-pregnant woman, who only discovered the error after experiencing complications.
Similarly, in 2016, LifeNews.com detailed a late-term abortion in Michigan where part of a baby’s head was left inside the mother’s womb, requiring subsequent surgery.
Neither Reisinger-Kindle nor Equity Clinic immediately responded to requests for comment. The lawsuit is pending, with a court date yet to be scheduled.
