PRAGUE — On May 18, 2016, in the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament, attorney and former MP Klára Samková delivered a speech that sent shockwaves through diplomatic circles.
Her remarks were part of a public forum titled “Should We Fear Islam?” They ignited a debate that much of Europe has spent years trying to avoid. Muslim ambassadors walked out. Czech citizens applauded.
Many saw it as a rare moment of honesty, one that called on the West to confront Islamic ideology with the same resolve it once used to defeat communism and fascism.
Samková’s central message was blunt: Islam is not just a religion, it is a totalitarian political system incompatible with freedom, democracy, and human dignity.
“We should not fear Islam,” she declared. “We should treat it in the same manner that European civilization has successfully treated all totalitarian and inhuman regimes. It should fight against Islam, win, and, once and for all, restrict its spread.”
Samková likened Islam to ideologies the West has already defeated—Nazism, fascism, and communism—and asserted that Islam, under the guise of religious protection, seeks to undermine the very legal and cultural values it refuses to practice.
“There is nothing better and more effective than abusing your enemy’s system of values, while simultaneously not participating in this system yourself,” she warned. “And this is exactly how Islam behaves.”
Tensions in the Chamber
The speech quickly sparked controversy. When Samková began comparing Islamic doctrine to totalitarian rule, a moderator attempted to cut her off, claiming her statements were “propaganda.” Members of the audience pushed back, demanding she be allowed to continue. One panelist stepped in to argue that silencing her would send a dangerous signal: that criticism of Islam is forbidden in a democratic parliament.
Ultimately, she was allowed to finish her address—a rarity in today’s Europe, where such discussions are increasingly shut down.
Walkout by Turkish Ambassador
The most dramatic moment came when several Muslim diplomats, including the Turkish Ambassador, left the chamber in protest. Rather than backing down, Samková incorporated their exit into her remarks, using it as a real-time example of Islam’s inability to tolerate dissent.
“They demand all rights in our countries,” she said, “but walk out the moment their own beliefs are questioned.”
Islam as a Political Ideology
Throughout her 30-minute speech, Samková outlined why she believes Islam is a system of governance, not a faith in the Western sense. Unlike Christianity or Judaism, she argued, Islam’s core is Sharia law: an inseparable legal framework that dictates everything from state governance to private behavior.
“The concept of religion as a private matter… is absolutely unacceptable to Islam,” she said. “It denounces it and calls it a crime.”
She asserted that Islam rejects the very ideas of progress, human rights, and philosophical inquiry that define European civilization. Calling it a “stillborn child of gnosis,” she argued that Islam has locked itself into a worldview hostile to freedom and individuality.
Samková also cited Article 17 of the European Convention on Human Rights—introduced by Winston Churchill to block totalitarian ideologies from abusing democratic protections—and urged its application to Islam:
“Churchill had Communism in mind. I have Islam in mind.”
A Call to Action—and a Warning
Samková’s final remarks were a direct appeal to Muslim-majority countries and to Muslims living in the West:
“You are on the wrong path. You are on the path leading away from God… There will be nothing left of you, and the name of your reputed religion will only be spoken—and then spit upon.”
She warned that if Islamic ideology continues to push for dominance, the West would eventually respond the way it has in the past—not with accommodation, but with resistance and force.
“Europe and America will do what they have already done twice before when threatened by ideologies that endangered human nature. They will go to war—and they will win.”
Where Are the Western Leaders Today?
Nearly a decade has passed since Samková’s address. In that time, political leaders across Europe and North America have largely avoided any serious discussion about the nature of Islam as a political force. Some have even criminalized criticism of Islamic ideology, blurring the line between religious tolerance and ideological submission.
Samková’s speech stands as a stark contrast. She named the threat, challenged the double standards, and defended the values of Western civilization—openly and unapologetically.
So, where are the leaders like Klára Samková in the United States? In the UK? In France? In Canada? Who in Congress would dare to give this speech today? Who in Washington would speak this plainly and be allowed to finish?
The silence is telling. The longer it lasts, the more severe the consequences become.
