I had 2 specialists see me yesterday as a new doctor had come on board and I stumped both of them.
No, I’m not saying that to brag, but it represents two of the biggest problems I see in the medical field which are lack of communication and refusing to look outside of the box. I am very grateful that the gastroenterologist has been willing to work with me as I keep doing research on my magenblase syndrome aka extreme belching. He has been willing to look at natural alternatives instead of turning to the usual “shotgun with medication” approach. In fact he prefers I not be on any medication which has been refreshing.
Since he had never heard of magenblase syndrome before (neither had the other doctor) I handed him my phone with the links pulled up. He proceeded to take notes and also to look up the condition in their huge database. It wasn’t there! This condition is fairly new and Europe has more studies on it than we have here in America. In fact magenblase is German for stomach bubble which is what shows up on the xrays. When the doctors saw the xray example and that mine looked identical to the examples they were blown away.
One direction we are going to go in are the food sensitivity tests that one of you recommended in the comments! It will be even more detailed than the test they wanted $700 for and praise God it will be FREE through the VA medical system. Once we have those test results we may have things even more narrowed down as to the ROOT CAUSE of magenblase syndrome. Like I said in my last post trying to treat this condition can definitely be “an exercise in frustration”, just like one of the studies said in the abstract.
One natural product I started using about 6 weeks ago is Enzymedica Dairy Assist which are 2 enzymes combined to help me digest dairy and protein. They contain lactase and protease digestive enzymes to help me digest both dairy products and protein.
I know what you’re thinking, why would I be using dairy products with my condition? Well it’s because I use a whey based protein shake for breakfast with 2 raw eggs blended in. I used to tolerate those very well but now it can activate a magenblase attack (extreme belching) so I decided to try this supplement. It works great! Now I don’t have to throw out my expensive protein shakes, I can actually use them and now absorb them properly.
Speaking of absorbing things properly one way you can tell is to look at your stools in the toilet before flusing. Are they floating or did they sink to the bottom? Floating poop is often caused by excess gas in the stool, which can result from dietary factors such as high-fiber or high-fat foods. Fermentation of unabsorbed carbohydrates in the colon can also release gas, contributing to buoyancy. In some cases, floating stools may indicate malabsorption, a condition where the body fails to properly absorb nutrients, including fat. This can be associated with conditions like celiac disease, Crohn’s disease, or chronic pancreatitis.
Sinking poop is considered normal and is typically solid and well-formed. It suggests a balanced diet and proper digestion, with minimal excess gas or fat in the stool. This is where mine has been since I started taking the enzymes and remain strict in my diet that consists mostly of protein like the carnavore or Atkins diets. I do use greens from the Peoples Chemist in order to keep my immune system up, but I cut the serving size in half due to my gut issues.
At the end of the day I’m really glad that my research may now help others with my same condition. The specialists were grateful for the research because now when they encounter this in the field they will have some answers for folks like me who are suffering from this horrible condition. There can be different underlying causes but one thing is for certain, your gut health is so important as it affects EVERYTHING in your body including your moods, so take care of it like your life depended on it because it does!
Oh last but not least I must disclose the fact that as an Amazon affiliate I earn a small commission on products I have linked in this post. It doesn’t cost you anything, Amazon just gives me a small cut.
Blessings to you! Have a great weekend!
