Child traffickers thought they could hide in the shadows of Florida.
They never saw this coming.
And Florida officials just delivered one shocking victory that has child predators running scared.
The largest child rescue operation in American history just changed everything
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier stood before the cameras on Monday with news that sent shockwaves across the nation.
In just two weeks, law enforcement had accomplished something unprecedented in American history.
Operation Dragon Eye pulled 60 critically missing children away from traffickers—breaking every record for child recovery operations in America.
This wasn’t some small-scale bust. Kids who were just nine years old got rescued from the worst situations you can imagine, spread across Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties around Tampa Bay.
U.S. Marshal William Berger of the Middle District of Florida couldn’t contain his pride as he announced the historic achievement.
“The successful recovery of 60 missing children, complemented with the arrest of eight individuals, including child predators, signifies the most successful missing child recovery effort in the history of the United States Marshals Service,” Berger declared.
The numbers don’t tell you everything.
What they found will make you sick
What these kids went through is beyond awful.
Some of the young girls they found were pregnant—and one was carrying her trafficker’s baby.
These weren’t just missing children who had wandered away from home.
The U.S. Marshals Service defines “critically missing” children as those at risk of violent crimes or with elevated risk factors like sexual exploitation, substance abuse, crime exposure, or domestic violence.
“The unique part of this operation was the fact that underaged critically missing children ranging from age 9 to 17 were not only recovered but were debriefed and provided with physical and psychological care,” Berger explained.
The operation didn’t just focus on rescue—it prioritized the healing process that would follow.
Every single child got medical checkups and counseling right away.
Officials put plans in place to keep these kids safe so they don’t end up back with traffickers.
Eight scumbags are locked up and going nowhere
Florida made sure these arrests would send a message to every creep who thinks about hurting kids.
Eight individuals were taken into custody facing charges ranging from human trafficking and child endangerment to drug possession and trafficking.
The bonds set for these suspects ranged from no bond to an unprecedented $250 million.
“I’ve never heard of that before,” Marshal Berger admitted when discussing the massive bond amounts.
Attorney General Uthmeier made it crystal clear where Florida stands on protecting children.
“As your Attorney General and a father of three young kids, protecting children is my top priority,” he said. “If you victimize children, you’re going to prison, end of story.”
This operation exposed the horrifying scope of child trafficking in America
Florida didn’t stumble into this success by accident.
The state has been ramping up its fight against human trafficking because the problem has reached crisis levels.
Florida ranks among the top three states in the nation for reported human trafficking cases, alongside California and Texas, according to the National Human Trafficking Hotline.
Last year alone, Florida got more than 1,830 reports about human trafficking, and that led to finding 1,874 victims.
The state’s Department of Children and Families says lots of these victims are kids between 11 and 17, and traffickers usually trick them through social media or other online schemes.
DeSantis stepped up with $4.9 million for more emergency shelter beds and staff to help trafficking victims, plus another $900,000 in grants for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
Twenty agencies teamed up to track down these criminals
Operation Dragon Eye didn’t happen because one department got lucky—it was law enforcement agencies from all levels working together to crush child trafficking networks.
The U.S. Marshals Service led the charge, but they were supported by 20 agencies working in tandem with over 100 people involved in the operation.
Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass assured parents across the nation that his department “will never stop searching” until every missing child is brought home safely.
“Sixty kids saved. That number sends the message that Florida will never be a safe place for traffickers,” Glass declared.
The collaborative effort included the Tampa Police Department, Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, St. Petersburg Police Department, Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, Pasco Sheriff’s Office, and numerous federal agencies.
Department of Children and Families Secretary Taylor Hatch credited the success to Governor DeSantis’ leadership.
“Under the steadfast leadership of Governor DeSantis, the Florida Department of Children and Families remains unrelenting when it comes to the protection, safety, and well-being of some of the most vulnerable Floridians—our children,” they wrote.
This battle is nowhere near finished
Operation Dragon Eye hit child traffickers hard, but officials know the threat isn’t going away anytime soon.
Commissioner Glass said “the fight isn’t over” and Florida has to keep watching out for kids who might become targets.
Marshal Berger painted a chilling picture of how traffickers operate, warning that predators often return to their victims if not apprehended.
“If the offenders are not apprehended, they will reconnect with these children. They are, in my opinion, leeches,” he said.
Dr. Katherine Gomez of the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice explained the psychological manipulation that makes these children so vulnerable.
“Oftentimes these young people have felt like there’s no one in their corner. They feel abandoned… like they have to look out for themselves because no one else will,” she said.
The emotional toll on law enforcement officers involved in these operations cannot be understated.
Commissioner Glass acknowledged that officers “have to see everything that happens to these children, and we need to pray for them because they had to take that burden home.”
Florida’s message to child predators is pretty simple: you can’t hide here.
Operation Dragon Eye shows what happens when law enforcement gets the right leadership and resources to go after the sickos who target America’s kids.
As Attorney General Uthmeier put it, “We will keep fighting evil head-on and bringing accountability to those who harm children.”
The 60 children rescued in Operation Dragon Eye now have a chance at healing and rebuilding their lives—something that would never have been possible if Florida hadn’t taken such aggressive action against the predators who stole their childhood.
