‘FIRE HER’: GOP Maj. Leader Thune run over by unknown, unelected bureaucrat gutting Big, Beautiful Bill

Senate Majority Leader John Thune has allowed Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough to run roughshod over him and President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” agenda.

MacDonough, an unelected bureaucrat described by Fox News as “one of the most powerful people you’ve never heard of,” has rejected multiple key provisions in the “Big, Beautiful Bill.”

She’s struck down provisions that’d prohibit the use of Medicaid funds for transgender “care,” block illegal aliens from collecting Medicaid, and “cap states’ ability to collect more federal Medicaid funding via healthcare care provider taxes,” according to The Hill.

She’s also blocked voter ID requirements, blocked the defunding of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), blocked cuts to Environmental Protection Agency grants, blocked cuts to “sanctuary cities,” blocked food stamp cuts, and more.

Yet despite MacDonough severely watering down the “Big, Beautiful Bill,” Thune refused to do anything about it.

“No, that would not be a good outcome for getting a bill done,” he told reporters Thursday when asked about the prospect of simply overruling her decisions, adding that her rulings are just “short-term setbacks.”

A growing number of critics on the right staunchly disagree with his mindset on this matter and have begun calling for him to not only reject MacDonough’s rulings but outright fire her.

These critics even include Rep. Dan Crenshaw, who published a video on social media on Thursday saying MacDonough “needs to be fired.”

Rep. Greg Steube, meanwhile, noted in a tweet that MacDonough is “an unelected swamp bureaucrat who was appointed by Harry Reid,” a rabid swamp Democrat.

“The Senate Parliamentarian is not elected. She is not accountable to the American people. Yet she holds veto power over legislation supported by millions of voters,” he added.

As for Thune, he has an army of critics at his heels barking at him to get rid of her already.

The only good news is that, according to Sen. Eric Schmidt, as of Wednesday, he and his colleagues had managed to somehow restore a provision banning illegal aliens from accessing food stamps.

Appearing on CNN, he was asked by host Jake Tapper about the calls for MacDonough to be fired.

“I understand the frustration [with her rulings], but I actually think we’re going to be able to work through this,” Schmidt said. “One example that is originally the not allowing SNAP benefits to illegal immigrants was bounced, and now that’s back in.”

“So I’m pretty confident we’re going to work through these and get the savings that we want, make sure illegal immigrants aren’t getting their taxpayer benefits and ultimately still delivering on all the things for American families. I’m still hopeful,” he added.
