In what was pretty obvious to those who actually understand this little thing called the Constitution, SCOTUS has ruled that parents have the right to excuse their children from school lessons that may conflict with their religious beliefs. And yes, this includes anything related to the rainbow mob.
Trump praised this decision, calling it a “Tremendous Victory for Parents.”
The Supreme Court held Friday that a group of Maryland parents are entitled to opt their children out of school lessons that could violate their beliefs in a case centered on religious freedom.
Did we really need a court ruling to figure this out? It should’ve been obvious to the so-called educators, but clearly, they’ve just been schooled.
The justices decided 6-3 along ideological lines in Mahmoud v. Taylor that parents can exclude their children from a Maryland public school system’s lessons that contain themes about homosexuality and transgenderism if they feel the material conflicts with their religious faith.
The school argued that this didn’t violate First Amendment rights because parents supposedly consented to the material when they enrolled their kids in public schools. But since some of those who criticize schools might actually support the losing side in this case, their excuse feels even weaker.
“A government burdens the religious exercise of parents when it requires them to submit their children to instruction that poses ‘a very real threat of undermining’ the religious beliefs and practices that the parents wish to instill,” Justice Samuel Alito wrote for the majority. “And a government cannot condition the benefit of free public education on parents’ acceptance of such instruction.”
The case aroses from Montgomery County Public Schools incorporating books into their preschool through 12th grade language arts curriculum a few years ago that featured “lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer characters,” the school district’s attorneys told the Supreme Court.
Are Montgomery County Public Schools doing so exceptionally that this should be the focus rather than math and English?
The attorneys said the school district did this as part of an effort to be “culturally responsive” and teach lessons that encourage “equity, respect, and civility.”
Someone should definitely remind the district that teaching kids to respect all students doesn’t have to conflict with their religious beliefs. In other words, you can respect everyone, even if you don’t agree with the ideas or pronouns they use.
As Trump said, parents “lost control of their child, and this is a tremendous victory for parents.” Like the President, I’m “not surprised” by the ruling, but I’m shocked it had to reach the highest court before schools were held accountable. Still, it was necessary—even if it shouldn’t have been in the first place. While the left may oppose parental rights, the sooner they accept that they don’t have the right to raise this nation’s children, the better off we’ll all be.
