Democrats were counting on lawfare as their secret weapon in President Trump’s second term.
But live by the lawfare, die by the lawfare.
And the Supreme Court socked Democrats with this bad defeat that no one saw coming.
Democrats were licking their chops when liberals won a 4-3 majority on the Wisconsin State Supreme Court.
That’s because Democrats thought they could immediately challenge the state’s congressional maps, which Democrat Governor Tony Evers signed into law back in 2022.
Republicans currently control six of the eight congressional seats in the state’s delegation.
In 2026, Democrats need to win five seats total to flip control of the House of Representatives.
Democrats thought they could pick a couple of seats for free just by having the Wisconsin State Supreme Court redraw the state’s congressional map.
The left immediately filed a lawsuit to win a court order for a more favorable map for Democrats.
“Democrats had asked the court to redraw the maps, which would have put two of the state’s six congressional seats currently held by Republicans into play,” Trending Politics reports.
“In particular, the state’s 3rd Congressional District, which is currently represented by Rep. Derrick Van Orden, would likely become more Democrat-leaning in the event of a redraw. Wisconsin’s 1st Congressional District, currently represented by Rep. Bryan Steil, would also shift to pure toss-up territory after leaning slightly right under the current map,” the Trending Politics report continues.
But in a shocking decision, the Democrat-controlled Wisconsin State Supreme Court refused to hear a challenge to the state’s map before the 2026 election.
And in the second half of a one-two gut punch, two ruby-red states now have the opportunity to redraw their maps to add more GOP seats.
In Texas, Republicans control 25 of 38 House seats.
Every Republican member of the Texas delegation won with at least 60 percent of the vote.
Texas Governor Greg Abbott is considering calling a special session of the legislature that would allow the legislature to draw a new map that would redraw two border districts held by Democrats to be more favorable to the GOP.
“Clear targets include Democratic Reps. Henry Cuellar and Vicente Gonzalez, who represent border communities that have shifted to the right in recent years. Trump won both districts in 2024, part of a broader realignment among Latino voters,” CNN reports.
Ohio law requires maps without bipartisan support to be redrawn every four years.
Currently, Ohio’s congressional delegation is 10 Republicans and five Democrats.
Ohio Senator Bernie Moreno said state law will allow the GOP legislature to draw a map where “we probably end up” with 12 GOP-held seats that “reflects the state.”
Democrat Congresswomen Marcy Kaptur and Emilia Sykes are the two whose seats will likely end up in danger.
The margins in the 2026 election are likely to be exceedingly close.
And the difference between Republicans winning and losing the House could be these redrawn state congressional district maps.
