CNN anchor Jake Tapper defended the cable news network amid rising outrage over its anonymously sourced scoop pushing the narrative that the bombing of Iran’s nuclear enrichment facility was a failure in a brazen effort to undermine President Donald J. Trump.
The story relied on vastly overselling a “low-confidence assessment” from the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) to sensationally claim that Operation Midnight Hammer was unsuccessful in destroying the Islamic Republic’s nuclear weapons capability and only managed to set it back a few months, directly contradicting the president’s insistence that Fordow was obliterated.
In a ten-minute monologue to open Wednesday’s edition of “The Lead,” the whiny activist and purported journalist mounted a vehement defense of the network and reporter Natasha Bertrand who was fed the illegal leak of top secret information with CNN’s reporting serving as the basis for a media-wide propaganda campaign that suggested Trump was lying about the success of the mission.

“CNN was first to report that one early DIA, or Defense Intelligence Agency, assessment suggested that the U.S. Military strikes on Iran this weekend did not completely destroy the core components of Iran’s nuclear program, setting back the program by only a few months, not a few years,” he said. “Now, it’s a low-confidence assessment, meaning that the DIA is far from sure about it.”
Tapper then whined that Trump was mean to CNN.
“Our obligation as journalists is not to praise President Trump, or protect his feelings, or to disparage him, or to praise him, for that matter,” he huffed. “Our obligation is to report facts. In this case, the fact is that an initial DIA intel assessment out of Secretary Pete Hegseth’s own Pentagon exists. And that’s not going to change, no matter how many insults Trump levels.”
“Asking questions is literally our job, demanding facts and answers, instead of just taking a president’s word for it. History has taught us that the most pro-service member action we can take is to ask questions of our leaders, especially in times of war,” Tapper concluded. “That, for journalists, is the height of patriotism.”
The pompous anchor’s self-righteous rant was then contradicted by CNN Political and Global Affairs Analyst Barak Ravid, who yanked the rug right out from under him, referring to CIA intelligence that confirmed that Trump, and not CNN, is right about the success of the bombing.

“What are you hearing from your Israeli sources about the damage four days after?” Tapper asked.
“So I think if you saw what CIA director John Ratcliffe issued, I think this is much closer to where the Israeli assessment is,” Ravid answered. “And I have to tell you, a senior Israeli intelligence official told me today that overall, other than the fact that he‘s using the word obliterated, overall, the Israeli intelligence assessment shows that the reality is much closer to where Trump says it is than to where the initial DIA report said it was.”
It’s laughable that Tapper would defend his employer for reporting “true” stories when it has been a primary vector of the biggest lies of the past decade, including running cover for disgraced former President Joe Biden, who was obviously senile.
The height of shamelessness is that once Biden was gone, Tapper wrote a book seeking to cash in on the “cover up” of the geriatric Democrat’s cognitive deterioration when he and his network spent nearly the duration of his presidency gaslighting Americans that he was fit as a fiddle, until it became impossible to maintain the lie any longer after the infamous CNN presidential debate last June.
If there was a cover-up, it is one that Tapper himself actively participated in by insisting that Biden was mentally capable and attacking anyone who dared to point out the truth.

“CNN is scum,” Trump said from Wednesday’s NATO summit in the Netherlands, not holding anything back. He also called for Bertrand, who also promoted the lie that Hunter Biden’s laptop was Russian disinformation, to be fired.
“Natasha Bertrand should be FIRED from CNN! I watched her for three days doing Fake News. She should be IMMEDIATELY reprimanded, and then thrown out ‘like a dog.’ She lied on the Laptop from Hell Story, and now she lied on the Nuclear Sites Story, attempting to destroy our Patriot Pilots by making them look bad when, in fact, they did a GREAT job and hit “pay dirt” — TOTAL OBLITERATION! She should not be allowed to work at Fake News CNN,” the president wrote in a post to Truth Social.
