ROWLETT, TX – Authorities in Rowlett are on a manhunt for 17-year-old Xavier Stevenson, accused of shooting a 15-year-old boy in the head during a robbery earlier this month. The incident occurred on June 13 and was reportedly linked to a planned meeting for the sale of vapes.
The shooting took place in a parking lot between a muffler shop and a Dollar General store. Surveillance footage captured Stevenson at the scene before the altercation. The victim, who miraculously survived, was accompanied by his older brother during the incident.
Detective Cruz Hernandez, one of the first responders, described the victim’s rapid recovery as extraordinary. “He woke up within two days, talking and walking,” Hernandez said.
The confrontation began when Stevenson allegedly attempted to pay via a digital app at a nearby park, but the victim’s brother insisted on cash. The meeting moved to the Dollar General, where Stevenson reportedly drew a gun and demanded everything from the victim.
Jeff Mackenzie, a witness who works nearby, recounted hearing gunshots and seeing Stevenson flee. “The kid was on the ground with pools of blood next to him. We prayed for him and tried to stop the bleeding,” Mackenzie shared.
Stevenson is not new to local authorities, having been a suspect in past incidents involving stolen firearms from parked cars. Detective Hernandez believes Stevenson is being sheltered by acquaintances. “He doesn’t have a car. Someone knows where he is,” Hernandez stated.
Rowlett police urge anyone with information on Stevenson’s whereabouts to contact the North Texas Crime Commission. Informants can remain anonymous and may receive a reward.
