A Planned Parenthood affiliate is under fire after issuing a social media post encouraging “trans” men—biological women who identify as male—to schedule cervical cancer screenings in recognition of Men’s Health Month.
The post, shared over the weekend by Planned Parenthood of Southern New England, sparked widespread backlash for promoting female-specific medical procedures as part of men’s health advocacy.
“Trans men are men and need cervical cancer screenings, too,” the post read.
It featured an illustration of what appears to be a trans-identifying woman with double mastectomy scars and offered tips on how to make the procedure more “comfortable” for trans-identifying patients.
“It’s Men’s Health Month, and that means highlighting the health needs of ALL men,” the post added.
The message was immediately met with skepticism and ridicule across social media platforms.
Before Planned Parenthood turned off comments, the post had already drawn thousands of reactions, with many users reacting with the “laugh” emoji—a strong indication of public mockery.
Critics said the post was misleading and contradicted basic biology, noting that only biological women have cervices and are at risk for cervical cancer.
Conservative outlet OutKick flagged the post and posed a direct question to the organization, which read, “If trans men are men, why do they need cervical cancer screenings—since only women have cervices?”
Neither Planned Parenthood of Southern New England nor its national organization responded to OutKick or Fox News Digital, which also sought comment.
This latest controversy adds fuel to the ongoing debate over “gender ideology” and healthcare, particularly in cases involving minors.
A recent report from the American Principles Project, a conservative watchdog group, accused Planned Parenthood of using contraception laws as “a massive loophole” to provide hormone therapy to trans-identifying minors without parental knowledge or consent.
Planned Parenthood has not publicly addressed the new criticism, but in past statements, officials have dismissed similar concerns.
Jenny Black, President and CEO of Planned Parenthood of the Pacific Southwest, previously defended the organization’s approach to “trans” care, calling the backlash “the dangerous spread of disinformation.”
She added, “We will continue to provide safe and legal health care to those who rely on us.”
The recent uproar has reignited debates over the sizable federal funding Planned Parenthood continues to receive.
According to the organization’s most recent annual report for 2023–2024, its affiliates were awarded close to $800 million in government reimbursements and grants within a single year.
This funding, sourced from taxpayers, supports a wide array of services, including reproductive healthcare and other programs, according to Fox News.
However, this financial support has faced increased scrutiny.
Earlier this year, the Trump administration moved to suspend tens of millions in federal funds from select Planned Parenthood affiliates.
Officials claimed these groups might be violating civil rights laws and failing to comply with executive orders restricting diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) efforts tied to federal funding.
This funding freeze has amplified concerns among critics who argue taxpayers should not bankroll organizations entangled in controversial healthcare policies or messaging.
Planned Parenthood has not issued a follow-up statement regarding the Men’s Health Month post, but its silence — paired with the decision to disable comments — has only intensified criticism.
