Donald Trump‘s Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed a significant surge in military recruitment that he attributes to a renewed sense of patriotism among young Americans. Speaking to Fox News live from Normandy, France, Hegseth bragged about the rise in Army recruitments under the new Trump administration.
Rise in Military Recruitment

“It’s historic. Of course, it’s a morale shift. It shifts back to the day President Trump was elected and then inaugurated,” Hegseth stated, drawing a direct line between the previous administration’s leadership and current recruitment trends. His remarks echoed a broader sentiment among military officials eager to galvanize support in a climate that has increasingly emphasized national pride and service. This shift in recruitment numbers is unprecedented, as the Army alone reported reaching a remarkable 61,000 recruits for fiscal year 2025, surpassing the previous fiscal year’s count of 55,150 by more than 6,000. According to Hegseth, such numbers not only signal an increase in enlistment but also reflect a revitalized spirit within the military.

The defense secretary emphasized that the upswing in recruitment extends beyond the Army, affecting all branches of the military: “It’s also the Air Force, it’s also the Navy, it is also the Marine Corps, Coast Guard and, as the president says, law enforcement,” he elaborated, underscoring a collective resurgence in morale throughout the service branches. Hegseth articulated that this newfound enthusiasm arises from a belief in strong leadership. He suggested that young Americans see military service as a noble calling during a time of perceived national stability and strength. “Across the board, the spirit of our country, [there’s a] willingness and desire to serve, because they see leadership that believes in the country that’s going to have their back,” he said. The defense secretary recounted beginning his day with a physical training session alongside rangers from the 75th Ranger Regiment, coinciding with the approximate timing of the first landing crafts on Normandy Beach on D-Day: June 6, 1944. Reflecting on the valor of D-Day soldiers who “charged toward the guns with almost no chance of success,” Hegseth reminded viewers of the sacrifices made by those who fought for freedom.
Honoring World War II veterans

As cemeteries across the nation brimmed with memories of past wars, Hegseth recently honored the sacrifices of the armed forces at Arlington National Cemetery. There, he interacted with World War II veterans, many of whom are now over a century old, whose determination remains steadfast despite the passage of time. Hegseth drew an emotional contrast between these centenarians and the youthful Army Rangers with whom he trained, exclaiming, “The blood of fighting for freedom still pumps in the veins of Americans, and we still raise those types.”
