That didn’t long. Less than a day after Donald Trump announced his tenuous “ceasefire” on his Truth Social platform, the entire “mission accomplished” narrative is coming apart. But while this may be a bit chaotic for Republicans and Neocons in Washington, it’s music to Netanyahu’s ears.
As many suspected, and as the Iranians were saying from the word go, Trump’s bombastic claim that Iran’s nuclear sites were “completely obliterated” by U.S. airstrikes over the weekend – now appears to be fabricated.
U.S. President Donald Trump is now panicking. He is claiming that new reports about leaked U.S. intelligence which appears contradict Trump’s claim that he ‘completely destroyed’ Iran’s nuclear energy and research sites – is nothing more than “fake news from CNN” and the “failing New York Times.”
Both CNN and The New York Times reported that U.S. strikes on Iran had only set back the Islamic Republic’s nuclear program by months, and in no way ‘completely destroyed’ the Iranian sites.
Trump also said that anyone who questions his decree this past weekend on the mission’s success, is “demeaning one of the most successful military strikes in history.”
This is North Korea-level narrative control by the White House.
Trump’s “special envoy” to the Middle East, friend and New York property developer, Steve Witkoff, who many believe is really working for Israeli interests first, ahead of American interests, is defending the Trump media line that Iran’s Fordow enrichment facility was “obliterated” and their mission to eliminate Iran’s nuclear capabilities had been achieved.
“It ought to be investigated and whoever did it, whoever is responsible for it should have been — should be held accountable,” said Witkoff, who then made the bizarre claim that public knowledge of Trump’s failed mission, “could hurt lives in the future.”
Former FOX News weekend host and Army reservist, now Defense Secretary, Pete Hegseth, commented on the matter at the NATO summit in the Netherlands on Wednesday, that a leak investigation was underway.
NOTE: The new narrative of a ‘lack of damage’ to Iran’s nuclear facilities, now opens the door for Israel to reserve the right to attack the Iranian facilities later on – presumably with the full backing of the U.S.
