More on that “killer heatwave”:
I now have the temperature data from the Met Office for Rothamsted for last weekend. They say it peaked at 30.0C.
Rothamsted is one of the few high quality Class 1 sites, situated just north of London in the Hertfordshire countryside. It therefore offers reliable temperature measurements, which are pretty representative of that part of England. Obviously London is likely to have higher temperatures because of UHI, and no doubt higher temperatures may appear in counties further south, such as Kent and Sussex.
But equally, most of England and Wales will normally be cooler than Rothamsted.
With these provisos over (!), the record for Rothamsted shows clearly that 30C is not an unusually high temperature there.
Claims of 600 dead are no more than dishonest scaremongering.
