Former Russian President Dmitriy Medvedev declared that several countries stand prepared to provide Iran with nuclear warheads following President Trump’s recent military strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities.
“A number of countries are ready to directly supply Iran with their own nuclear warheads,” he declared.
Medvedev made these assertions in an extensive social media post on X early Sunday morning, suggesting the American attacks had produced consequences opposite to Trump’s intended objectives.
The former Russian leader, who held the presidency from 2008 to 2012, stated that US strikes targeting facilities in Isfahan, Natanz and Fordow had strengthened rather than weakened Iran’s position.
“Enrichment of nuclear material — and, now we can say it outright, the future production of nuclear weapons — will continue,” Medvedev claimed in his post.
He further asserted that “Iran’s political regime has survived — and in all likelihood, has come out even stronger” as a result of the American military action.
Iranian citizens are “rallying around the country’s spiritual leadership, including those who were previously indifferent or opposed to it,” according to Medvedev.
The Russian official’s ten-point critique of US policy, written in English, accumulated over three million views within hours of publication.
Medvedev currently serves as Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of Russia and has been considered by analysts as a potential successor to Vladimir Putin.
The former president had initially positioned himself as a liberal reformer during his presidential term but shifted dramatically toward hawkish positions after Russian forces entered Ukraine.
Political observers suggest Medvedev’s militant stance may serve to maintain his standing within Putin’s inner circle or appeal to hardline factions as Putin ages.
An investigation by independent Russian outlet The Insider revealed that many of Medvedev’s provocative statements coincided with wine shipments from Italian vineyards.
Russia’s support for Iran stems from Tehran’s crucial assistance in Moscow’s Ukrainian conflict, with the two nations signing a comprehensive strategic partnership agreement in January.
Putin personally contacted the White House on Saturday to position himself as a potential mediator in the escalating regional tensions, the Daily Mail reported.
Russian-Iranian relations, dating back to the 16th century when Muscovy established ties with the Persian Empire, have experienced periodic difficulties despite current cooperation.
Russian voices inside the country advocated for providing Iran with military support similar to what Washington has supplied Ukraine, including defense systems and intelligence.
Daily Mail further noted that Russian businessman Konstantin Malofeyev stated, “It’s time for us to help Tehran. And at the same time, to offer the United States and Iran diplomatic assistance in peace negotiations by appointing a special envoy for this. Two can play at this game.”
Imprisoned Russian nationalist Igor Girkin warned that without substantial support from Russia and China, Iran would face destruction within a month.
Russia’s Foreign Ministry issued a formal condemnation of the American strikes, calling them a violation of international law and United Nations principles.
The ministry statement declared, “The irresponsible decision to subject the territory of a sovereign state to missile and bomb attacks, whatever the arguments it may be presented with, flagrantly violates international law, the Charter of the United Nations and the resolutions of the United Nations Security Council.”
Trump reportedly planned a telephone conversation with Putin following the Iranian strikes, according to Sunday reports.
The American operation, designated ‘Operation Midnight Hammer,’ involved B-2 bombers targeting Iran’s nuclear infrastructure after Trump’s two-week ultimatum expired Saturday night.
US forces deployed 14 bunker-buster bombs, more than two dozen Tomahawk missiles, and over 125 military aircraft against three strategic locations across Iranian territory.
The coordinated assault represented one of the most significant American military actions in the Middle East in recent years.
