Iran has launched missile attacks on US military bases in Qatar, claiming it as retaliation for American aggression – but they didn’t go very well at all. The attack comes amid rising tensions in the Middle East, with explosions lighting up the night sky over Doha as Qatar’s air defenses intercepted incoming missiles.
At a glance:
- Iran launched missile attacks targeting US military bases in Qatar and reportedly Iraq
- Qatar reports no casualties at al Udeid base, saying its air defenses successfully intercepted the missiles
- The attack follows US strikes that dropped “bunker buster bombs” on Iranian nuclear sites
- Multiple Gulf nations including Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq closed their airspaces
- President Trump is monitoring the situation from the White House Situation Room
Iran Launches “Mighty” Attack on US Bases
Iranian state television announced what it called a “mighty and successful response” to “America’s aggression” on Wednesday – but their claims don’t seem to match reality, with every single missile having been intercepted. The attack reportedly targeted the al Udeid Air Base in Qatar, a key US military installation in the region.
The missile strike follows a US attack using “bunker buster bombs” on three key nuclear sites within Iranian territory. Qatar’s government confirmed the attack but stated its air defenses successfully intercepted the Iranian missiles with no casualties reported.
Iran gave a 12-hour heads-up before launching its missile attack on US bases stationed in Qatar.
No casualties are expected.

Regional Airspace Closures and International Response
Qatar immediately closed its airspace as a precautionary measure following the attack, though reports have revealed the United States and Qatar were well aware that the attack was coming, allowing them to evacuate the site ahead of time. Other Gulf nations including Kuwait, Bahrain, and Iraq also shut down their airspaces, causing significant disruption to commercial aviation in the region.
A US government official stated that the White House and Department of Defense are “closely monitoring” the threats to American bases. President Trump has reportedly been briefed on the situation and is monitoring developments from the White House Situation Room.
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian took to social media claiming Iran did not initiate the conflict but would respond forcefully to any invasion.
As of now, reports are that all Iranian missiles launched at US bases were intercepted, and there are no casualties or no damage.
Also reports that Iran let Qatar know about attacks ahead of time (NYTs).
Hopefully this response was just for show.

Conflicting Reports and Aviation Disruptions
Initial reports suggested a base in western Iraq was also targeted in the Iranian attack. However, US officials have so far only confirmed the strike against the base in Qatar.
Qatar’s Ministry of Defense issued a statement suggesting that their own retaliation could be on the way, and that they condemn the assault on the U.S. air base by Iran. The successful interception of a reported six missiles prevented what could have been a devastating attack on American forces.
Major airlines including Oman Air and Etihad Airways have adjusted flight routes to avoid restricted airspace.
