A late-night visit turned terrifying for two women in Cheyenne, Wyoming, when a man allegedly pulled out a pistol and announced he was going to play Russian roulette.
Jonathan Douglas Potter, 38, is facing two counts of aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon after the disturbing incident, which could land him behind bars for up to ten years, according to local reports.
The chaos unfolded early Tuesday morning when Potter showed up at a woman’s home to deliver medication, accompanied by another woman. According to an arrest affidavit obtained by Cowboy State Daily, Potter used the bathroom upon arrival — but things quickly took a dark turn.
“When he came out, he made a comment that he had to get ‘strapped,’” the affidavit states. Potter then allegedly pulled a Bersa .380-caliber pistol from his waistband, pointed it at the women, and declared he was going to play Russian roulette.
He reportedly removed the magazine from the gun, stuck his finger through the trigger guard, and began swinging the weapon around.
Unsurprisingly, the women weren’t laughing. One woman told Potter to leave repeatedly, while the other woman — who had arrived with him — ran and hid in the bathroom. Both later told deputies they were in fear for their lives.
Responding officers noted that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the incident. When law enforcement arrived, Potter was standing outside smoking a cigarette. He allegedly told officers he had no idea what was going on and claimed he had just come over to “hang out.”
Eventually, Potter admitted to pulling the gun but denied pointing it at anyone. Still, he reportedly acknowledged that “the way he went about the situation with the two females was wrong.”
Potter is currently being held at the Laramie County Detention Center as the case moves forward.
