The Los Angeles Dodgers announced Friday that the team is pledging $1 million in direct financial assistance to immigrant families affected by recent events in the region.
The announcement was made in coordination with the City of Los Angeles and shared via the team’s official X account.
According to the team’s statement, the funds are intended to assist families of immigrants who have been impacted by ongoing developments in the city.
The Dodgers also stated that additional community efforts will be announced in the coming days, although details have not yet been released.
Stan Kasten, the Dodgers’ President and CEO, issued a statement explaining the team’s decision.
He said the events taking place in Los Angeles have had widespread effects, impacting thousands of residents across the area. Kasten added that the organization had heard calls for them to take leadership and act on behalf of affected individuals.
“We believe that by committing resources and taking action, we will continue to support and uplift the communities of Greater Los Angeles,” Kasten stated.
He emphasized the importance of using the team’s platform to address the needs of the local population during challenging times, per Breitbart News.
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass also responded to the Dodgers’ announcement with a public statement. She thanked the organization for taking meaningful action to support the city’s immigrant community, which she described as shaken by recent developments.
“These last weeks have sent shockwaves of fear rippling through every neighborhood and have had a direct impact on our economy,” Bass said. “My message to all Angelenos is clear: We will stick together during this time and we will not turn our backs on one another — that’s what makes this the greatest city in the world.”
The team’s pledge comes after controversy involving allegations that the Dodgers had cooperated with federal immigration authorities. Multiple Democrat officials and media figures criticized the organization, claiming it had worked with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) during a federal operation in the area.
In response, the Dodgers denied any cooperation with ICE, stating that they refused access to the stadium’s parking lots for immigration enforcement purposes. Both ICE and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) later confirmed that the Dodgers had no role in the operation.
According to DHS, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) vehicles had briefly entered the stadium parking lot, but there was no formal involvement by the team or its facilities. The federal agencies clarified that the stadium itself was not part of the enforcement action.
The timing of the Dodgers’ $1 million pledge suggests the organization may be seeking to distance itself from the controversy and reaffirm its support for local immigrant communities. However, the team did not explicitly tie the donation to the ICE-related incident.
The pledge represents one of the Dodgers’ most significant contributions aimed at immigrant families in the city. The franchise has previously participated in a range of community outreach initiatives across Los Angeles.
As of now, the team has not released further details about how the $1 million will be distributed or what other community efforts may follow. Additional announcements are expected soon.
