SALEM, Ore. – The non-partisan Legislative Revenue Office released its revenue impact statement on HB 2025’s -13 amendment with a price tag of $15.5 billion over ten years – the largest tax hike in Oregon’s history. In comparison, the 2017 transportation package (HB 2017) was estimated to raise $5.3 billion while the 2021 Corporate Activity Tax (HB 3427) is projected to raise more than $12 billion over ten years.
“Democrat politicians have truly lost their way,” said House Republican Leader Christine Drazan (R-Canby). “Asking Oregonians to pay the largest tax hike in history when they can barely get by is unconscionable. House Republicans have remained focused on addressing the needs of everyday Oregonians and their families who are frustrated by the cost of living and overburdened by never-ending tax hikes.”
With the -13 amendment, HB 2025 would include approximately 35 new taxes, tax hikes and fee increases.
“By taxing and raising costs on literally everything, Salem Democrats have extended their disdain for businesses to everyday Oregonians and their families,” said Rep. Shelly Boshart Davis (R-Albany), Vice-Chair of the Joint Committee on Transportation Reinvestment. “This bill is so out of touch and exactly what you get when you scheme in the basement of the Capitol instead of listening to real Oregonians who tell us everyday that the cost of living is their biggest challenge.”
“Raising a record amount of taxes on Oregon’s families is completely unacceptable,” said Rep. E. Werner Reschke (R-Klamath Falls). “House Republicans have demonstrated that there are far better options for stabilizing the Transportation Department and rebuilding trust in ODOT, without asking Oregonians to pay more at the pump, DMV, or when they buy a car.”
Democrats have now cancelled two work sessions on HB 2025 as House Republicans continue to fight to protect Oregonians from the largest tax hike in Oregon history.
