Major cities in this country have, for the most part, been taken over by Democrats.
Even here in Texas, our big cities, such as Austin, San Antonio, Houston, and Dallas, are all run by Democrats.
They are killing our cities, and that was proven yet again, with San Francisco, Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi’s (D-CA) home base, winning the dubious honor of the worst-run city in the country.
One thing in common
When I was in my 20s, I visited San Francisco and it was an amazing city.
The restaurant scene was vibrant, the streets were clean, but that is no longer the case.
Go on social media, and you now see horror stories, including the likes of homeless people defecating on the street near diners at restaurants that feature outdoor seating.
In all honesty, I don’t think I would take a free trip to San Francisco with the horror stories I see today.
Not surprisingly, the city ranked 148th among major US cities, and I am going to guess that you will not be surprised by the cities that precede it: Detroit, Oakland, New York City, Philadelphia, and Baltimore.
I can personally attest to the state of Philadelphia, as I recently visited the city and was horrified at the decline.
WalletHub Financial Writer Adam McCann stated, “We can learn how well city officials manage and spend public funds by comparing the quality of the services residents receive against the city’s total budget.”
The best-run city… well, that has a Republican mayor. Provo, Utah, finished atop the survey, with McCann adding, “Provo, UT, is the best-run city, and the reasons for that are that the city is experiencing business growth of around 5.2%, alongside a high school graduation rate of nearly 91%, a combination that signals a strong foundation for the future.”
When the city’s mayor, Michelle Kaufusi, was asked to comment on what the city is doing right, she stated, “We’ve always believed in getting the fundamentals right — delivering quality education, maintaining safe neighborhoods, ensuring well-maintained infrastructure, and practicing responsible fiscal stewardship.”
She went on, “This national ranking validates that approach and shows that when you focus on providing exceptional core services efficiently, the results speak for themselves: residents prosper, businesses flourish, and our entire community thrives.”
Democrats ruin our cities, so why do people continue to vote for them and expect things to change?
