Disney World is currently experiencing a sharp decline in visitor numbers, with June attendance reaching unusually low levels for what is typically a peak month for the resort.
The blog Disney Dining reports that this month’s figures are significantly below historical averages. Social media posts echo the trend, with users commenting on the noticeably subdued atmosphere across the parks.
Visitors noted a lack of crowds and reduced wait times, describing the parks as eerily quiet. These observations sparked online speculation about what might be contributing to the drop in attendance.
Rising vacation costs have emerged as a possible factor. While overall inflation has eased in recent months, the prices of food, accommodations, and experiences at Disney parks have continued to climb.
Disney Dining noted that company executives have acknowledged concerns over pricing but have not made substantial changes. Many potential guests appear hesitant to spend on expensive vacations amid ongoing financial uncertainty.
Earlier in the year, reports indicated that Disney leadership discussed whether their continued price increases were pushing away middle-class families who previously made up a large portion of park visitors.
The Wall Street Journal reported that the cost of a standard four-day stay at Disney World rose by approximately $1,000 from 2019 to 2024. A major portion of that increase—about 80 percent—comes from fees for services that were once complimentary.
Weather conditions may also be affecting attendance. Central Florida is experiencing higher-than-average temperatures this summer, which may be discouraging some families from visiting during the hottest part of the year.
Some travelers may be opting to reschedule their trips for cooler months such as September and October, according to speculation from park analysts and social media users.
Meanwhile, new competition from other theme park attractions could be luring potential Disney guests elsewhere. One such competitor is the recently opened Epic Universe.
The new park has generated excitement among families seeking fresh experiences. Reports suggest that many are choosing to visit this new attraction rather than Disney World, contributing to the attendance decline.
The outlet stated that Epic Universe has quickly become a major draw, attracting both local and out-of-state tourists who might have otherwise spent their vacations at Disney parks.
Touringplans.com, which monitors theme park activity, confirmed the attendance slump, stating that June 2025 is shaping up to be one of the slowest in the last ten years.
“The only slower Junes we’ve seen were in 2020, when the parks were closed due to COVID-19, and in 2021 during the early pandemic recovery period,” the site reported.
The platform jokingly suggested renaming this year’s season from “Cool Kid Summer” to “Ghost Town Summer,” underscoring the dramatic fall in foot traffic at Disney World.
