“I’m not sure the Founding Fathers envisioned taxpayer-funded legislative chambers being turned into platforms for political theater,” Yunker stated. “The House floor is meant for serious debate, lawmaking, and serving all Oregonians not partisan spectacles designed to push cultural agendas.”
The controversial event was organized as part of a Democratic House resolution specifically recognizing Black drag queens in Oregon. Critics on social media quickly pointed out what they perceived as a double standard in allowing such performances in official government spaces.
Questions of Double Standards
The drag show has sparked intense debate about what types of events are appropriate for legislative chambers. Many conservatives questioned whether religious ceremonies or events representing traditional values would receive similar approval from Oregon’s Democrat-controlled legislature.
Yunker further criticized the event as “outrageous and a complete waste of taxpayer money.” His comments reflect growing conservative frustration with preferential treatment for progressive cultural expressions in government settings.

Social media reactions to the performance were swift and largely negative, with many expressing embarrassment over the use of the legislative chamber for such a display. Some users pointed to previous instances where Republican actions were restricted in similar settings.

That event required significant security presence, including police in riot gear, drones, tactical units, and K-9 teams. The tensions between progressive and conservative values regarding drag performances, particularly those involving children, remain a flashpoint in Oregon politics. And Democrats just keep rubbing it in the right’s faces…
