Once again, the scourge of illegal immigration has reared its ugly head in our communities, this time in a shocking violation of privacy that should infuriate every American. In Houston, Texas, a Mexican national who entered our country illegally now stands accused of secretly recording a woman in a brewery bathroom. This disturbing incident highlights the ongoing need for President Trump’s steadfast commitment to securing our borders, enforcing immigration laws, and protecting our citizens.
Earlier this month, Houston police arrested 40-year-old Edrie G. Vierya after a complaint was made that he had attempted to secretly film a woman using the restroom at Bad Astronaut Brewery. According to Fox 26 Houston, the victim, Crusilla Bilton, described the terrifying moment she noticed the suspect’s phone being slid under her stall, invading her privacy in a deeply disturbing manner. Bilton bravely confronted the man, chasing him from the restroom, but he fled the scene before he could be apprehended at that moment.
Thankfully, surveillance footage and diligent work by brewery management and investigators quickly identified Vierya. After his arrest on June 17, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a detainer on Vierya because of his illegal status. He now faces charges for invasive recording, a state jail felony in Texas. Due to recent legislation signed by Governor Greg Abbott, offenders convicted of this crime after September 1 will be required to register as sex offenders, a necessary and welcome measure to protect our communities from such predators.
Sadly, this case is hardly an isolated incident. Just this past March, another illegal immigrant, Lucio Catairino Diaz, was sentenced to six years in prison for intentionally contaminating women’s water bottles with his bodily fluids at a medical office building near Houston. Diaz’s outrageous acts infected at least 13 women with dangerous illnesses, including herpes and hepatitis A—leaving permanent physical and emotional scars. ICE placed a detainer on him as well, but not before innocent women suffered irreversible harm at his hands.
HOUSTON, Texas — A Mexican man who allegedly entered the U.S. illegally is accused of secretly recording women in a Houston-area brewery. Immigration officers placed a detainer on him due to his status.
Houston police detectives arrested Edrie G. Vierya, 40, this month for the alleged secret recording of a woman in the bathroom of the Bad Astronaut Brewery in July 2024, Fox 26 Houston reported. The complaining witness told the local Fox News affiliate that Vierya tried to record her by sliding his phone under the stall door.
“It was a very private moment that was no longer private,” she told the reporter.
The woman, who identified herself to Fox as Crusilla Bilton, said she ran out of the bathroom to try to chase the man down. Video from the brewery shows Vierya running out of the bathroom.
The brewery manager said she turned over the video to Houston Police Department officers within 24 hours of the incident. Manager Tiare Austin noted she also searched social media to try to find any information on the suspect.
The police investigation led to the identification of Vierya as the suspect in the attempted recording. Police charged the Mexican national on June 13 and took him into custody four days later, the report states.
Court records show the man is charged with invasive recording in a bathroom. The offense is a State Jail Felony. On May 29, Texas Governor Greg Abbott signed HB 1465 into law. When the law goes into effect on September 1, persons convicted of the crime will be required to register as sex offenders.
These horrific incidents prove beyond doubt that illegal immigration is not merely an economic issue—it is a matter of public safety, national sovereignty, and basic decency. President Trump has been clear from day one: our nation’s security and the safety of American citizens must always come first. This means building the wall, empowering ICE and Border Patrol, and swiftly deporting criminal aliens who endanger our neighborhoods.
For too long, liberal politicians and open-border advocates have ignored the human cost of illegal immigration, prioritizing the rights of criminals over the safety of American families. It is time to reject this dangerous mindset and embrace a strong, America First approach that protects our communities, restores law and order, and ensures that incidents like these become a thing of the past.
Under President Trump’s leadership, we have the opportunity to do just that—reclaim our borders, restore national pride, and protect innocent Americans from becoming victims of preventable crimes. The safety and dignity of our citizens depend on our willingness to take bold action. We must never allow political correctness or liberal weakness to compromise the security of our families and communities.
