June 19, 2025 MANHATTAN, New York – A 15-year-old boy was struck by lightning during a freak thunderstorm that blanketed the Manhattan area on Thursday afternoon.
FDNY, NYPD and Parks Police responded to multiple 911 calls for the incident at around 3:30 p.m. in Central Park near East 101th, along the East Drive.
According to police, lightning hit a tree near the boy and the teen was found with burns around his neck. The teen was transported by EMS to Cornell Hospital for further treatment and last listed in stable condition.
