Tim Walz thought he could hide behind talking points and dodge accountability.
But one Florida Congressman wasn’t having any of it.
And Byron Donalds utterly destroyed Tim Walz with one brutal question that left him scrambling.
Tim Walz got called out for his disgusting attack on ICE agents
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz found himself in the hot seat during a tense House Oversight Committee hearing on Thursday.
The failed vice presidential candidate was forced to defend his outrageous comments comparing Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents to Nazi Germany’s secret police.
Republican Florida Representative Byron Donalds wasn’t about to let Walz slide by without answering for his inflammatory rhetoric.
Back in May, Walz delivered a commencement speech where he called ICE agents President Trump’s “modern-day Gestapo.”
The comparison drew immediate outrage from law enforcement officials and Republicans who called the remarks disgusting and dangerous.
Donalds came armed with the facts and wasn’t backing down.
“Do you realize how disgusting a phrase that is considering the history of Nazi Germany?” Donalds pressed Walz. “Would you like to recant that statement?”
Walz tried to weasel his way out of taking responsibility for his inflammatory comments.
“What I said, congressman, and I have a long history of supporting law enforcement, is that President Trump was using them as his modern-day Gestapo, not identifying who you are, coming up in unmarked vans, taking people away,” Walz responded.
But Donalds wasn’t buying the weak excuse and doubled down on demanding accountability.
Donalds demolished Walz’s pathetic defense
The Florida Congressman didn’t let Walz off the hook with his feeble attempt to justify comparing American law enforcement officers to Nazi storm troopers.
Donalds pointed out that ICE agents are simply doing their jobs by arresting and deporting people who entered the country illegally.
He reminded Walz that it was the Biden-Harris administration that “abused every process” relating to illegal immigration and created the crisis that President Trump is now cleaning up.
“The president is doing his job. So it is sick to refer to Americans who are ICE agents as Gestapo. Governor, you’re wrong. You need to apologize to these agents,” Donalds declared. “They’re doing their jobs. They are Americans, they are serving this country with honor and decency and respect.”
Donalds wasn’t finished dismantling Walz’s pathetic excuses.
“Do not diminish their work simply because you tried to make a cheap point that you could tweet,” Donalds continued.
The Congressman’s words hit their mark as Walz had no real response to defend his indefensible comments.
During his original May commencement speech, Walz had gone even further with his disgusting rhetoric.
He accused ICE agents of shipping arrested illegal immigrants to “foreign torture dungeons” and denying them trials.
“Donald Trump’s modern-day Gestapo is scooping folks up off the streets,” Walz had claimed. “They’re in unmarked vans, wearing masks, being shipped off to foreign torture dungeons—no chance to mount a defense, not even a chance to kiss a loved one goodbye.”
Walz’s dangerous rhetoric has real consequences for law enforcement
The Department of Homeland Security wasn’t going to let Walz’s inflammatory comments slide without consequences.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin issued a statement calling Walz’s remarks “sickening.”
She pointed out that irresponsible rhetoric like Walz’s has led to a 413% increase in assaults on ICE agents.
When politicians like Walz demonize law enforcement officers, it puts brave men and women in uniform at risk.
These agents are working to protect American communities by removing dangerous criminals who have no right to be in this country.
President Trump’s immigration policies have proven overwhelmingly popular with the American people.
Legal immigrant citizens strongly support the deportation of illegal immigrants, according to CNN’s Harry Enten.
Meanwhile, border crossings, migrant encounters, and “gotaways” have all dropped by 93% or more during Trump’s first 100 days back in office.
A White House fact sheet documented the dramatic improvement in border security under Trump’s leadership.
Meanwhile, Walz and other Democrat governors continue to obstruct federal immigration enforcement through their sanctuary policies.
During the hearing, Walz and his fellow Democrat governors – New York’s Kathy Hochul and Illinois’ JB Pritzker – defended their refusal to cooperate with ICE.
They tried to claim that immigration enforcement is solely a federal responsibility while simultaneously working to undermine those very efforts.
The American people see right through their games.
They elected Donald Trump to secure the border and remove criminal illegal aliens from American communities.
Democrats like Tim Walz can keep making excuses and hurling insults at law enforcement.
But Byron Donalds and other Republicans will keep holding them accountable for their dangerous rhetoric and failed policies.
