Authorities in Michigan arrested a 25-year-old man after he allegedly stabbed his fiancee to death because she was “driving a wedge between him and his roommate.”
Seth Thomas Martin called police in Waterford Township, a suburb of Detroit, around 3:41 p.m. Friday to say he had stabbed his 33-year-old fiancee Mallory Myers to death. Martin allegedly met officers outside with blood on his arms. Cops took Martin into custody and went inside the home to find Myers dead, the agency said in a press release.
The Oakland County Prosecutor’s Office on Monday charged Martin with first-degree murder.
During an arraignment hearing Monday, prosecutors laid out additional evidence against Martin. He said he Myers were laying in bed together. She was on her phone as he watched her, prosecutors said, according to a courtroom report from local Fox affiliate WJBK. He then allegedly took out a knife and stabbed her five to 10 times, prosecutors said.
After he called 911, dispatchers asked the suspect to apply pressure on the victim’s wounds, however he said he couldn’t because there were too many, a detective told the court.
“Seth stated ‘she’s right next to me — she’s not doing good.’ Seth told dispatch he stabbed Mallory in ‘the neck, the chest, arm a couple times,’” the detective said.
He stated to the dispatcher he stabbed her in the neck first because he “wanted it to take less time,” prosecutors said. In an interview with detectives, he recalled after he stabbed her he remembered her saying “baby, baby, baby, I’m dying. Baby I’m dying. Call the cops.” He also allegedly said he had fantasized about killing Myers with a knife “early on in their relationship,” prosecutors allege.
As for the motive, he said he felt she was driving a wedge between him and his roommate,” cops said.
Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald noted the leading cause of death for women between age 15 and 44 is domestic violence.
“Mallory Myers wasn’t a statistic. Her life had purpose, and she should be with us still. We intend to bring Mallory’s killer to justice,” McDonald said.
Martin is in the Oakland County Jail without bond. His next court date is slated for June 27.
