PALM BAY, FL – A 14-year-old boy in Palm Bay has been cited by police after allegedly taking his parents’ car without permission, driving it through a neighborhood, and flipping it over.
The incident left significant damage in its wake, particularly affecting Tamara Harris’s household. Harris’s husband’s work trailer, which had been parked in their front yard, was severely damaged. “Every day that the trailer sits here, we’re losing income,” Harris said, pointing out the missing wheel and other damages.
Palm Bay Police reported that the teenager was cited following the crash. The vehicle, taken from a family member, was flipped during the incident. Harris recounted hearing loud noises from her home office. Concerned, she sent her son outside to investigate. “He took a while to come back,” she recalled, adding that her son had to contact law enforcement to ensure the driver’s safety.
Marks from the crash remain visible on the street. Harris explained that her son initially saw the young driver flee the scene, though he returned later with his mother. “She informed us that he had stolen her car,” Harris said.
The financial repercussions have been steep for the Harris family. Since the car was reported stolen, their insurance won’t cover the repairs. Beyond the financial strain, Harris is concerned about broader safety issues. “It’s summertime, and kids are out. Parents need to know where their children are,” she emphasized.
The incident has sparked discussions about teen safety and parental awareness in the community. As repairs continue, Harris hopes the story serves as a reminder to other parents.
