Bernie Sanders and AOC just endorsed a 33-year-old with zero relevant experience to run America’s largest city – and his plans for New York would make California’s failures look like child’s play.
The socialist old guard is rallying behind Zohran Mamdani, a little-known Queens Assemblyman, in a desperate attempt to block Andrew Cuomo’s return to power in the NYC mayoral race. Bernie Sanders has made an unprecedented move by endorsing Mamdani, marking his first involvement in a NYC mayoral primary. With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also throwing her weight behind Mamdani, the progressive wing is attempting to install a candidate whose radical agenda includes city-owned grocery stores, free public buses, and massive tax hikes on job creators. Even the left-leaning New York Times Editorial Board has warned voters against supporting Mamdani, citing his thin resume and unrealistic proposals.
Socialists Unite: Bernie’s Last Stand in the Big Apple
Just when you thought New York City couldn’t possibly veer further left, Bernie Sanders has decided to anoint his chosen one for the mayoral throne. The 82-year-old socialist who’s never met a government program he didn’t want to expand has thrown his support behind Zohran Mamdani, a 33-year-old Queens Assemblyman with approximately fifteen minutes of political experience. This unprecedented endorsement marks Sanders’ first involvement in a NYC mayoral primary – apparently, he’s been saving his special blessing for someone sufficiently committed to turning America’s economic capital into Venezuela-on-the-Hudson.
Sanders’ endorsement reads like a socialist manifesto, with the aging Vermont senator praising Mamdani’s “inspirational grassroots campaign” – code for “lots of college kids with zero real-world experience.” What’s Mamdani planning? Only 200,000 new “affordable” housing units (built by whom?), a rent freeze (because that’s worked so well historically), free public buses (nothing is free), and – my personal favorite – city-owned grocery stores. Because if there’s one entity that should be in charge of your food supply, it’s the same folks who run the DMV.
AOC Joins the Progressive Party
Not to be outdone in the race to radicalize the Big Apple, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has also endorsed Mamdani. The self-styled democratic socialist congresswoman, who famously chased Amazon and its 25,000 high-paying jobs out of her district, apparently sees Mamdani as the perfect vessel to continue her economic destruction on a citywide scale. The two have been campaigning together, likely sharing tips on how to drive businesses to Florida and Texas even faster than the current exodus.
“We need a new politics and new leadership which is prepared to stand up to powerful corporate interests and fight for the working class.” – Bernie Sanders
Translation: We need someone who will demonize the very businesses that create jobs and tax revenue while promising an endless array of freebies paid for by “the rich” – until the rich inevitably move to Florida. The Sanders-AOC alliance backing Mamdani is nothing more than an attempt to turn the nation’s financial capital into a laboratory for failed socialist policies. Their target audience? Young, white, ultra-left New Yorkers who believe money magically appears when government spends it and that all of life’s problems can be solved with another tax increase.
Even The New York Times Can’t Stomach This Candidate
When you’ve lost the New York Times, you know you’re too far left. In a stunning display of unexpected common sense, the Times Editorial Board has advised New Yorkers against voting for Mamdani, stating, “We do not believe that Mr. Mamdani deserves a spot on New Yorkers’ ballots. His experience is too thin and his agenda reads like a turbocharged version of Mr. de Blasio’s dismaying mayoralty.” When the Times is comparing you unfavorably to Bill de Blasio – widely regarded as one of the worst mayors in New York history – you might want to reconsider your life choices.

Meanwhile, the front-runner Andrew Cuomo – no conservative by any stretch – has secured endorsements from former Mayor Michael Bloomberg and former Governor David Paterson. While Cuomo comes with his own considerable baggage (remember the nursing home scandal?), at least he isn’t proposing to turn Whole Foods into a government agency. The former governor appears to be attempting a political comeback after resigning amid sexual harassment allegations, but apparently, that’s still preferable to Mamdani’s platform in the eyes of many New York Democrats.
The Grand Socialist Experiment Continues
Mamdani’s campaign funding structure tells you everything you need to know about his economic literacy. According to Sanders, Mamdani is “funding his campaign largely through small-dollar donations” with “more than 27,000 individual contributions.” How sweet. And how does Mamdani plan to finance his cornucopia of freebies and government expansions? By “asking corporations and the richest 1% of New Yorkers to pay their fair share in taxes.” Because millionaires and businesses can’t possibly leave New York for Florida, Texas, or any of the other states actively courting them with favorable tax policies.
As New Yorkers head to the polls, they face a choice that will determine whether their city continues as America’s economic powerhouse or accelerates its transformation into a progressive playground where ideology trumps practicality. If Mamdani’s socialist experiment is allowed to proceed, expect an acceleration of the exodus of businesses and taxpayers that’s already underway. The city that never sleeps might soon become the city that can’t pay its bills – but at least the free buses will run on time. Probably not, though.
