NYC Comptroller Brad Lander Tries A Padilla Move, Is Arrested By ICE

Brad Lander, the NYC Comptroller and erstwhile candidate for Mayor tried his version of a Padilla move, this time at a federal immigration court hearing, and got himself arrested. 

City comptroller Brad Lander was dramatically arrested by ICE agents Tuesday in a chaotic scene outside a federal immigration court – drawing outrage and support from his fellow Democratic mayoral primary candidates.

Eye-popping video from 26 Federal Plaza showed Lander being manhandled and cuffed by the feds after the comptroller vocally protested masked federal agents hauling away a man leaving an immigration hearing.

Lander repeatedly demanded to see a judicial warrant as he kept his hand clutched on the detainee’s shoulder, video obtained by The Post shows.

Before we get to the video, let’s take a look at what Lander was doing. He was literally trying to prevent a federal court and agency from following the law and potentially initiating deportation proceedings against ..and ILLEGAL ALIEN. 

His support is for people here illegally, and its obvious it doesn’t matter to Brad nor the other mayoral candidates if additional laws had been broken or not. He and they have chosen to side with illegals over American citizens. 

His wife went to his X account and added to the drama. 

The thing is, Brad Lander had LINKED arms with these illegal immigrants and was obstructing the proceedings.

I’m sure Alex Padilla, who was putting on a terrific sob fest acting job on the Senate floor, was a little ticked that Lander was trying to upstage him. 

I’m not even sure his performance met the low threshold of a Razzie Award. That said, at least he got some publicity. Will that net him more votes versus Andrew Cuomo or the socialist/communist Zahran Mamdani whom AOC is supporting? Not enough to move the needle for him. 

Democrats have chosen to support illegal aliens over American citizens. They’ve chosen to obstruct federal proceedings, and flout federal and state laws. 

In the moments before Lander was handcuffed, agents could be seen trying to physically separate him from the man they had come to detain. Lander struggled to stay close, keeping his arms locked with the man. Videos taken by journalists show agents struggling to separate Lander from the man he’d linked arms with for more than 40 seconds before wresting the two apart. Multiple agents then grabbed Lander’s arms and put them behind his back.

“You’re obstructing,” an agent told Lander.

“I’m not obstructing, I’m standing right here in the hallway,” Lander said as he was being handcuffed.

“You don’t have the authority to arrest U.S. citizens asking for a judicial warrant,” Lander said as he was led away down a hallway and into an elevator.

Except he wasn’t just innocently ASKING a question. He had linked arms with an illegal alien in an attempt to keep ICE from doing their job. That is definitely obstruction. He knows that. We know that. 

Yet they’ve chosen the drama queen route in order to keep as many of Joe Biden’s illegal aliens here regardless of whether they commit additional crimes or not. 

American citizens who are victims of crimes committed by those here illegally don’t matter to Alex Padilla, Brad Lander, or any other Democrat.

Speaking of mayoral candidates, Mamdani tried to get in on the Padilla gambit yesterday and ended up looking like the socialist fool he is. 

Quite frankly, any Democrat who chooses illegals over American citizens has squandered votes. In fact, what these virtue signaling idiots don’t realize is that their support and Padilla antics have them losing support from Hispanics. 

The survey, conducted June 9–11 by the League of American Workers (LAW) and TechnoMetrica Institute of Policy and Politics (TIPP), found that 53 percent of Hispanic voters said they “somewhat” or “strongly” support increasing deportations, particularly for individuals with criminal records. Among voters aged 18 to 24, support stood at 49 percent.

Overall, nearly six in 10 registered voters back the Trump administration’s focus on stepped-up deportations and law enforcement priorities, the poll found.

Democrats have long claimed they are the party of Hispanics. Yet the more they embrace illegal immigration over actual citizens and obstruct federal proceedings like Brad Lander just did, Hispanics will chose to cast their vote…against the drama queens. 

Brad Lander thinks his Padilla gambit and subsequent martyrdom will garner him more votes. The reality clue bat will be fun to watch. 

Meanwhile, the dramatic acting is just a wee bit over the top wouldn’t you say? 

There should’ve been real consequences for his antics. And, until that happens, the Democrats will keep running this playbook.
