The promises regarding Israel’s return to their homeland have seen some realization. The complete return will occur when Jesus, the descendant of David, takes His rightful place as their ruler. He embodies the good shepherd mentioned by Ezekiel. King David lived long before Ezekiel, and it is Jesus, as King David’s heir, who will reign over Israel during the Millennium. After numerous kings and leaders have failed to guide Israel toward righteousness, this King of kings will prevail.
This reflects a broader view of human history. We often strive to create the perfect leader or government, yet all fall short. We recognize that power tends to corrupt, and absolute power corrupts absolutely. Human systems will inevitably fail due to our sinful nature. Even within the church, the pursuit of godly leaders can lead to poor choices, resulting in tyrants, or the removal of righteous leaders by ungodly groups. The reality is clear: we need a supreme ruler whose heart is untouched by sin and who possesses the authority to overcome any opposition.
This principle applies to individuals as well. Just as the church and the world require Jesus to establish righteousness and peace, every person needs Jesus to reign in their heart to experience the same.
Reflect on this: Is Jesus your shepherd king? Will you allow Him to govern your life today?
