California News:
ICE agents wear masks primarily for their safety, as they face threats and harassment from the public, including doxing and death threats against their families.
But Democrats are now pushing for ICE agents and members of law enforcement to unmask themselves.
California State Senators Scott Wiener (D-San Francisco) and Jesse Arreguin (D-Berkeley) are the authors of SB 627, the “No Secret Police Act” to prohibit law enforcement at all levels from covering their faces while conducting operations in the state of California.
The bill also requires officers to be identifiable on their uniform.
“As the Trump Administration expands the use of secret police tactics, SB 627 boosts transparency and supports public safety by bolstering public trust in law enforcement,” Sen. Wiener and Arreguin said in a press statement Monday.
Ironically, these are the same people who mandated masks on everyone’s faces in California, including babies and children, during the coronavirus flu outbreak, while locking 4o0 million people down for 3 years.
It’s as nutty as California Governor Gavin Newsom calling President Donald Trump an authoritarian, when Newsom ordered California locked down for 3 years, mandated masks, social distancing and the covid shot, to go back to work and school.
Newsom is an authoritarian. Democrats are authoritarians.
Remember in 2022, the Globe reported on their dictatorial orders and legislation:
Numerous fast-tracked bills in the California Legislature involve forced COVID-19 vaccinations for children for school enrollment, allowing minor children to make their own vaccine decisions away from a parent, requiring health care staff to complete cultural humility training to provide trans-inclusive health care, and, another would force law enforcement officials to enforce public health orders.
And this is being done with the Legislature waiving the 30-day in print rule so that bills can be acted upon more quickly.
When did the California Legislature become so autocratic?
So the same long-time legislative authoritarians, tyrants, totalitarians, who forced Californians to mask-up and take a shot they didn’t want are now demanding that law enforcement officers unmask their faces, and wear a name tag on their uniforms.
Again, this is quite ironic since U.S. Senator Alex Padilla (D-CA) deliberately did not have his US Senate pin on as required, when he barged into Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem’s press conference last week, and tried to rush the podium while she was talking.
“The recent federal operations in California have created an environment of profound terror. If we want the public to trust law enforcement, we cannot allow them to behave like secret police in an authoritarian state,” said Senator Wiener. “Law enforcement officers do critically important work to keep our communities safe, and they should be proud to show their faces and provide identifying information when doing so. It boosts trust in law enforcement, which makes it easier for law enforcement to do their jobs and makes California safer for all of us.”
“Secret police behavior tanks trust & must end,” Wiener said on X. “We’re seeing the rise of secret police — masked, no identifying info, even wearing army fatigues — grabbing & disappearing people. It’s antithetical to democracy & harms communities. The No Secret Police Act can help end the fear & chaos this behavior creates in communities.”
Wiener and Arreguín are copying House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who said that ICE agents arresting criminal illegal immigrants should not be wearing masks. Jeffries said Tuesday that ICE agents who attempt to conceal “their identities from the American people, will be unsuccessful in doing that” and they will all be identified “no matter what it takes, no matter how long it takes,” Fox News reported.
Fox News reported:
House Speaker Mike Johnson was asked Friday “so you’re okay with these agents sort of not identifying themselves when they’re arresting migrants?”
“Why? So that they can target them?” he responded. “So they can put their names and faces online and dox them? That’s what these activists do. So we have to protect those who protect our communities.
“And it’s absurd for anybody, members of Congress or any other elected leader, to be calling out ICE for trying to do their job. They’ve made it difficult for them to do it for years, and I just think it’s patently absurd,” Johnson also said.
Ditto.
Senators Wiener and Arreguín should be more careful – they are letting their totalitarian impulses show. And their ignorance is on display – States cannot dictate federal law enforcement uniforms, and have no jurisdiction over what federal law enforcement does.
