An Arizona mother who turned a neighborhood park into a danger zone has been sentenced to 10 years in prison after a wild outburst that ended with a 12-year-old girl getting run over.
Brandie Gotch, 31, pleaded guilty to three counts of aggravated assault following a February 2024 incident that started with a playground dispute and escalated into vehicular mayhem. Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell confirmed the sentencing on Saturday, calling the situation “potentially much more tragic.”
“This could have ended far worse,” Mitchell said. “Thankfully, the worst injury was a sprained ankle and some bruises.”
The chaos unfolded at Westgreen Park in Peoria, Arizona, where Gotch arrived on the afternoon of February 27 to pick up her kids after they reportedly got into a fight — allegedly encouraged by other children who were filming the drama.
According to the Maricopa County Attorney’s Office, things took a dark turn when a boy at the park insulted Gotch. She reportedly responded by grabbing him by the hair and then chased another boy around the park with a stick, shouting threats including, “I am going to kill you and run you over.”
After the confrontation, Gotch got back into her white Chevy Silverado with her children. But before leaving, she backed out of her parking spot, revved her engine, and drove directly toward the group of kids still nearby.
One boy managed to jump out of the way just in time — but his 12-year-old sister wasn’t so lucky. Gotch’s truck struck her leg, leaving her with a painful sprain and multiple scrapes. Witnesses say over a dozen other children were present and had to scatter to avoid being hit as she continued driving through the park.
Police later arrested Gotch at her home. During questioning, she claimed the children had thrown wood chips at her kids and alleged one had punched her 10-year-old daughter. She also reportedly expressed uncertainty about hitting the girl, telling officers, “I hope I didn’t.”
Gotch was originally booked on multiple charges, including attempted first-degree murder, endangerment, and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Her bond was set at $250,000.
Following her sentencing, County Attorney Mitchell reminded the public that adults must remain responsible — even in emotionally charged situations.
“Even when angry or frustrated, it’s up to adults to act like adults,” she said. “It is never okay to take our rage out on a kid.”
