A marriage of politically connected powerhouses commenced over the weekend, uniting two notable names from the world of progressive elites in matrimony.
Walking down the aisle in the Hamptons on Saturday — coincidentally, Donald Trump’s birthday — were Huma Abedin, former aide to Hillary Clinton, and Alex Soros, son of billionaire philanthropist George Soros, as the Daily Mail reports.
Lavish wedding draws notables
The nuptials took place in Water Mill, N.Y. at one of the groom’s family estates, and the event itself was a veritable who’s who of leftist celebrities.
Abedin, 49, and Soros, 38, announced their engagement last summer and have now finally tied the knot.
In addition to her years of service to Mrs Clinton, Abedin will also be remembered by many as the former wife of disgraced former Rep. Anthony Weiner, who found himself embroiled in a sex scandal that led to his resignation from Congress.
Abedin has a 13-year-old son, Jordan, whom she shares with her former husband.
Soros, for his part, now helms the Open Society Foundations, the nearly $25 billion nonprofit organization founded by his controversial father and which funds all sorts of far-left candidates and causes in the United States.
Star-studded event unfolds
The wedding weekend saw luxury SUVs, private jets, and famous faces galore descending on the quaint locale, with Mrs. Clinton perhaps among the best-known of Abedin’s confidantes.
Speaking to Vogue about the wedding of the woman often referred to as her “second daughter,” the former secretary of State declared, “I’m looking forward to being a witness to their marriage; to the celebration that we re all going to be part of; to seeing so many longtime friends gathered in one place to really enjoy being part of Huma and Alex’s start of their married life.”
Clinton added, “And I think we all could use some fun, so I’m looking forward to all of it.”
As People noted the union of two such well-connected, wealthy power brokers was certain to bring out the glitterati, and the celebrations did not disappoint in that regard.
Among the revelers were former Vice President Kamala Harris and husband Doug Emhoff, lawmakers Sen. Chuck Schumer, Hakeem Jeffries, and Nancy Pelosi, and, of course, Mrs. Clinton’s husband, former President Bill Clinton.
Socialite Nicky Hilton Rothschild was in attendance, as was Vogue editor and Democratic Party loyalist Anna Wintour.
Other luminaries said to have been on the guest list — though not officially confirmed as present — were former President Barack and former first lady Michelle Obama, George and Amal Clooney, as well as fashion legend Diane von Furstenberg and husband Barry Diller, rendering the celebratory weekend a can’t-miss for anyone who is anyone in the world of progressive politics.
