After a suspect brazenly impersonated a police officer and killed Minnesota Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband — and shot and wounded Sen. John Hoffman and his wife — at their respective Twin Cities homes early Saturday, authorities are advising people to avoid attending any of the dozens of “No Kings” protests scheduled in Minnesota state on Saturday.
“Given the targeted shootings of state lawmakers overnight, we are asking the public to not attend today’s planned demonstrations across Minnesota out of an abundance of caution,” the Minnesota State Patrol said.
According to FOX9, the image of “No Kings” fliers posted online by the State Patrol are from inside the suspect’s vehicle.
The suspect fled the scene at the Hortman home after a shootout with police around 3:35 a.m. Also inside the vehicle was a manifesto with the names of other state lawmakers, according to police.
