It would appear that California Gov. Gavin Newsom would rather have cities in his state burn to the ground rather than admit that Donald Trump was right for sending in the National Guard.
To that point, Newsom sued the administration to have recently deployed troops removed from Los Angeles, since he did not request them.
For now, Newsom’s complaint has been put on ice, as the judge did not like Newsom’s proposed timeline.
Not so fast
Newsom wanted the case expedited, but Judge Charles Breyer, a Clinton appointee, denied his request.
And yes, this Judge Breyer is related to retired U.S. Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer.
Breyer moved the deadline on the case back to 11 a.m. PDT Wednesday for the administration to reply to the case, then said the state would have until 9 a.m. PDT on Thursday to issue its response.
This has been a battle that has been chiefly fought in the media and on social media between these two, as phone lines no longer apparently work.
Trump posted to Truth Social, “The INCOMPETENT Governor of California was unable to provide protection in a timely manner when our Ice Officers, GREAT Patriots they are, were attacked by an out of control mob of agitators, troublemakers, and/or insurrectionists. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”
He went on, “If our troops didn’t go into Los Angeles, it would be burning to the ground right now, just like so much of their housing burned to the ground. The great people of Los Angeles are very lucky that I made the decision to go in and help!!!”
Just a reminder, this is a governor that, during the 2024 election, Trump touted as being a better state-level leader than Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.
Newsom has pushed back in the media, and he dared border czar Tom Homan to come and arrest him, after comments by Homan were, according to the Trump official, taken out of context regarding the possible arrest of L.A. Mayor Karen Bass and Newsom himself.
Newsom also released a video, stating, “Instead of focusing on undocumented immigrants with serious criminal records and people with final deportation orders, a strategy that both parties have long supported, this administration is pushing mass deportations, indiscriminately targeting hardworking immigrant families regardless of their roots or risk.”
It is rather shocking to me that Democrats would rather see property destroyed and their city streets literally being set on fire rather than entertain the idea that it is time for a heavy hand to deal with these thugs and criminals looking to destroy Los Angeles.
As I have stated before, I would have made the offer that the request would be approved as soon as it was made, but I would allow residents of California to see how much leeway these politicians give these nefarious actors.
Instead, by jumping in, all Trump did was provide Democrats with another way to attack him. I can only hope people are smart enough to see through this ridiculous political stunt Dems are trying to pull off.
