The big blowout last week between Elon Musk and Donald Trump appears as though it has fizzled out.
Musk came to his senses about 48 hours after this all started, but Trump took a bit longer to realize that a feud with the tech mogul only benefits the Democrats.
So, this week, Trump appeared ready to bury the hatchet after repeated efforts by Musk to end the hostilities.
Happily ever after
Whether Trump wants to admit it or not, Musk played a significant role in not only Trump’s 2024 election victory but also in the GOP retaking the Senate and holding the House.
Musk was, at times, even more active than Trump on the campaign trail, and he opened up his checkbook to get the GOP over the line in November.
When the infighting started, while predictable, it was also a major problem for the party to have these two titans publicly spatting like a couple of petulant children.
When Musk stated that Trump was implicated in the Jeffrey Epstein files, he clearly went too far, and at the time, I thought they were forever done.
Yet, after a few hours, someone had posted to Musk on X that he should take a breath, and he did.
A few days later, Trump started to repost some of the posts made by Republicans and Trump allies, as well as making some nicer comments about Trump.
In a show of good faith, Musk also deleted many of the derogatory comments, then cracked a joke about being wrong about the spending bill after being complimented by Democrats on his stance.
Musk then posted, “I regret some of my posts about President @realDonaldTrump last week. They went too far.”
Trump also seemed to get past this, telling the New York Post’s Miranda Devine, “Look, I have no hard feelings.”
He went on, “I was really surprised that that happened. He went after a bill that’s phenomenal. He just — I think he feels very badly that he said that, actually.”
This now seems to be water under the bridge, or at least I hope it is.
Now, I fully expect these two to make an appearance together at some point to officially bury the hatchet, but I think it is safe to say that the bromance between Elon and Donald is officially over.
That does not mean they will not be able to work together, but I just doubt we will be seeing Elon at the next big Mar-a-Lago bash.
