June 12, 2025 — NEWARK, NJ – A major incident erupted at Delaney Hall Detention Facility on Wednesday, where multiple detainees reportedly rioted and temporarily took control of the building, prompting a swift response from federal authorities and a surge of protests outside the facility.
According to officials, the facility was evacuated on orders from the warden as the situation escalated. ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) agents later regained control of the building. Authorities now believe that nine detainees managed to escape on foot during the chaos and have launched an active manhunt. Multiple federal agencies, including the FBI, Department of Homeland Security (DHS), ICE, and the U.S. Marshals, are currently involved in search operations.
Outside the detention center, tensions flared as anti-ICE protesters gathered, blocking vehicle access with barricades and clashing with federal agents. Video captured by Peter H for FreedomNews.TV shows ICE agents piling out of vehicles and physically pushing protesters out of the roadway as they attempted to prevent transport vehicles from entering or leaving the premises.
The New Jersey Alliance for Immigrant Justice alleges the riot was a direct response to dire conditions inside the facility. The organization claims that detainees endured extreme mistreatment, including stretches of 20 hours without food followed by just two slices of bread, boiling water coming from pipes, spoiled or frozen meals, and the repeated cancellation of visitation rights.
