A top Department of Homeland Security (DHS) official issued a forceful rebuttal Wednesday to Kim Kardashian after the celebrity criticized recent immigration enforcement actions during ongoing anti-ICE protests in Los Angeles.
Tricia McLaughlin, Assistant Secretary at DHS, responded directly to Kardashian’s Instagram plea that called the raids “inhumane” and harmful to “innocent, hardworking people.” Kardashian, 44, had written, “No matter where you fall politically, it’s clear that our communities thrive because of the contributions of immigrants… There HAS to be a BETTER way.”
McLaughlin, posting on X, countered with a pointed question:
“@KimKardashian, which one of these convicted child molesters, murderers, drug traffickers, and rapists would you like to stay in the county?”
She followed up with rap sheets of four recent deportees, detained in the previous 72 hours, to underscore the point. These included:
-
Eswin Uriel Castro, previously deported, with convictions for child molestation and possession of a dangerous weapon.
-
Gerardo Antonio-Palacios, a Mexican national with prior convictions for homicide and burglary.
-
Antonio Benitez-Ugarte, also from Mexico, convicted of drug trafficking.
-
Mab Khleb, a 53-year-old Cambodian national, convicted of child lewd conduct, drug possession, and battery.
McLaughlin’s post reflected DHS’s broader defense of its enforcement actions amid growing public scrutiny and activist pushback.
The Kardashian exchange came on the heels of another tense exchange earlier in the day between DHS and the California Governor’s press office. In a meme war on X, Governor Gavin Newsom’s staff attempted to mock former President Donald Trump’s tough-on-immigration rhetoric using a clip from Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith with AI-generated audio mimicking DHS advisor Stephen Miller’s recent Truth Social post.
The post featured statements such as:
“The insurrectionist mobs will be defeated. Our love for America is stronger than their hatred… The illegals will be returned. Our way of life will prevail.”
DHS replied with a widely circulated meme that read:
“Don’t make me tap the sign. Liberals don’t know things. They don’t read history, they don’t obsess over stats… Their entire world is driven by the consumption of fiction.”
The message — terse and biting — reinforced the agency’s view that enforcement is being mischaracterized by those unfamiliar with the scale and severity of the criminal element present in some immigration violations.
