FBI director Kash Patel commended his officers and the DEA for removing 33 firearms and 252 kilograms of cocaine worth over $9 million from a big drug organization in Atlanta.
“I’m proud of the outstanding work by our agents and grateful for the strong partnership of the DEA in this joint effort,” Patel said.
The FBI head went on to laud his department’s win, saying “This was a major takedown – dozens of weapons, large quantities of fentanyl and meth, and key members of a sophisticated drug network taken off the streets.
“Together, we’ve dealt a serious blow to those profiting off addiction and reaffirmed our unwavering commitment to protecting American communities.”
Bust details
Special Agent Paul Brown was working on the bust, and said the drugs were diezed following search warrant execution at three locations: one in Douglas County, one in South Fulton, and one in Atlanta.
During the execution of a federal search warrant at Harralson’s residence in the Atlanta area on June 5, law enforcement discovered approximately 56 kg of fentanyl, 84 kg of methamphetamine, nearly 10 kg of heroin, and approximately 4 kg of cocaine, all in powdered form, along with hundreds of thousands of pressed pills.
A different kind of FBI operation
This comes around the same time that the FBI head spoke out about the arrest of a Chinese national who was accused of smuggling sensitive biological materials into the United States and lying to federal agents.
The arrest and subsequent filing of criminal charges against Chengxuan Han, a citizen of China, include allegations of making false claims and smuggling items into the United States.
At Wuhan, China’s Huazhong University of Science and Technology, HAN is working toward a Ph.D. in the College of Life Science and Technology. The University of Michigan has been involved in two such cases now.
“The alleged smuggling of biological materials by this alien from a science and technology university in Wuhan, China — to be used at a University of Michigan laboratory — is part of an alarming pattern that threatens our security,” U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan Jerome Gorgon Jr. said in a statement.
“The American taxpayer should not be underwriting a PRC-based smuggling operation at one of our crucial public institutions.”
More Drug Busts
The agency, however, has made more than one crucial drug bust in recent months, with April bringing a DOJ’s announcement about 45,000 pounds of cocaine with a value of over $500 million being seized by the agency.
At a news conference at Florida’s Port Everglades in April, Attorney General Pam Bondi and Patel spoke to how the drug seizures had prevented likely deaths and ensured the safety of the general population.
“We have saved thousands and thousands of lives as a result of this incredible cooperation,” Bondi said. “We believe two cartels, CJNG and Sinaloa, were heavily tied to these shipments.”
