CHESTER, NY – In the early hours of Sunday morning, a dramatic rescue unfolded on Kings Highway in Chester, New York, when a single car crash turned into a fiery scene. A 68-year-old woman, trapped inside her overturned vehicle that had erupted into flames, owes her life to the quick thinking and bravery of a group of passersby and first responders.
Among the rescuers was Nathan Felix, who happened upon the scene at around 4 a.m. Realizing the gravity of the situation, Felix, a local rapper known as Yung Rolls, did not hesitate. “The way I heard that lady screaming, it felt personal, like it was a family member,” he recounted. With a fire extinguisher in hand, he battled the flames engulfing the car.
Officer Nick Contino arrived shortly after Felix, equipped with a tool to shatter the sunroof. Working together, they managed to extract the woman from the burning wreck with the assistance of another bystander. “The relief I felt was immense,” Felix admitted, noting the exhaustion that set in after the adrenaline rush subsided.
Two critical factors contributed to the swift emergency response: the proximity of the accident to emergency services—less than a mile away—and the victim’s own call to 911. Despite sustaining burns on 30% of her body, the woman is currently recovering at Westchester Medical Center.
Officer Contino, who sustained a hand injury during the rescue, and Felix have been praised for their courageous actions. “He jumped out of his car to assist and put his life on the line,” Felix said of Officer Contino. Their teamwork exemplified the spirit of selflessness and bravery.
The victim, though still hospitalized, has expressed her gratitude to her rescuers. “Thank you, thank you, thank you to all you guys helping us,” she conveyed through her family, acknowledging the extraordinary efforts that saved her life.
