As our Nina told you on Sunday, it’s just a little, lawful unrest. No big whoop, right. Prepositioned pallets of bricks, preprinted signs, matching t-shirts and menacing violence. Seriously, the ICE protestors have seriously good logistics. They aren’t playing and neither is the California Attorney General Rob Bonta. He has filed suit against Donald Trump for “abusing his authority and unlawfully mobilizing California National Guard troops”.
Just saying that if you look at the recent list of California AG’s, they are seriously unserious people: Rob Bonta, Xavier Becerra (Biden HHS), Kamala Harris (Biden Veep) and the unfortunate Jerry Brown. Seriously, unserious.
Late last night, Governor Newsom talked about why they were filing suit against Trump. This guy is running for President so hard he pulls a hammy with every sound bite.
Trump’s abuse of power is a very real threat to the foundation of our republic.

He must be taking the $20 million talk to real men class the Dems are offering. It comes off fake and insincere, but he is trying hard.
Exactly what does the lawsuit ask? From the New York Times:
The State of California on Monday filed suit against the Trump administration over its move to take control of the state’s National Guard and deploy its troops to Los Angeles to protect immigration enforcement agents.
Gov. Gavin Newsom had foreshadowed the filing in a social media post earlier on Monday. Before the complaint was filed, the state’s attorney general, Rob Bonta, said in a news conference on Monday that the lawsuit would ask a court to hold unlawful and set aside Mr. Trump’s order.
“We don’t take lightly to the president abusing his authority and unlawfully mobilizing California National Guard troops,” Mr. Bonta said.
The lawsuit argues that Mr. Trump’s federalization of the state’s National Guard was illegal because he bypassed Mr. Newsom, Mr. Bonta said, and because it violated the Tenth Amendment, which protects state rights.
He argued that local law enforcement had been capable of handling the situation and could have requested support from state partners had it been necessary. Mr. Bonta also said that the situation had been calming before Mr. Trump’s move incited new unrest.
Here is Rob Bonta reading, very badly, a statement about the lawsuit and seemingly surprised by it.
Both Newsom and Bonta say that California Law Enforcement was handling the situation, but that’s not how it sounded.
Gavin Newsom stayed quiet while protesters blocked roads, burned flags, and clashed with law enforcement. But the second the National Guard was called in to restore order, he threw a fit, and now he’s suing.

More from the New York Times:
Gov. Gavin Newsom had foreshadowed the filing in a social media post earlier on Monday, a day of fast-moving events that began with a focus on the federalized National Guard moving into the streets of Los Angeles but ended with a significant escalation, as Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said he was sending in 700 active-duty Marines.
In an interview on Monday, Mr. Newsom warned other governors across the country that Mr. Trump could repeat his move in their states, too, in the name of suppressing protests against the administration’s immigration crackdown.
“The president’s order that we are litigating on is a national order,” Mr. Newsom said. “It’s not just for Los Angeles. And so I continue to remind my fellow governors — not just Democratic governors, Republican governors — of how consequential it is and how significant an escalation it is.”
Newsom’s benevolence is over the top. This isn’t about him, mind you. This is about the Tenth Amendment and all of the other states. More:
The complaint largely focused on the legitimacy of Mr. Trump’s seizure of control over the state’s National Guard. It sought a judicial declaration nullifying Mr. Trump’s order and declaring that it was unlawful for Mr. Hegseth to bypass Mr. Newsom in federalizing those forces.
But while the complaint declares that “use of the regular armed forces is similarly unlawful here,” it does not develop that idea at length or request a judicial order to send the Marines back to their base. It is possible the state could file an expanded complaint later.
Rob Bonta and Gavin Newsom will amend that puppy with every argument, no matter how farfetched until they hit on one that tests well.
Take that to the bank.
