Pennsylvania Sen. John Fetterman blasted his fellow Democrats on Monday for failing to condemn the rioting that erupted in Los Angeles following an ICE raid, taking to social media to voice his disapproval.
The scenario is “anarchy and true chaos,” Fetterman wrote on X, expressing his disappointment with his party’s lack of action to stop the destruction, as the Daily Caller reported.
If the Democratic Party does not strongly denounce these acts, he said, it risks looking immoral.
From Fetterman
“I unapologetically stand for free speech, peaceful demonstrations, and immigration—but this is not that. This is anarchy and true chaos,” Fetterman wrote.
“My party loses the moral high ground when we refuse to condemn setting cars on fire, destroying buildings, and assaulting law enforcement,” he added.
On Saturday, following rioting that broke out following an ICE raid at a Home Depot in Los Angeles, President Donald Trump sent the National Guard to the city.
At least a thousand people wreaked havoc on Friday night, encircling a federal building, assaulting ICE agents, inflating tires, and damaging government property, as reported by the Department of Homeland Security.
From Democrats
When federal forces were sent to Los Angeles to quell the riots, some Democrats voiced their disapproval, loudly and with intention.
Democrat lawmaker Linda Sanchez of California criticized the deployment, describing it as “authoritarian flexing” that failed to enhance public safety. She insisted that the vast majority of protesters had maintained their composure.
But she wasn’t the only one who didn’t think the riots that had led to arrests, injuries, destruction of property, and other issues should be considered a problem.
Waters weighs in
On Monday, Democrat California Rep. Maxine Waters added her voice to the chorus, asserting that “no violence” took place in Los Angeles, despite images showing burning automobiles and an assault on federal officials.
Chief Jim McConnell of the Los Angeles Police Department characterized the rising violence in a way with which Waters disagreed.
“Well, I was surprised at the way that the police chief was describing all of this,” Waters said.
“There had been no violence where anybody that was protesting hit anybody, shot anybody, threatened anybody. Nothing had happened. And so he doesn’t know what to do, probably, because this is a sanctuary city, and the police don’t have the authority. All that he’s got to do is work with the governor,” the lawmaker concluded.
