One of the main reasons that President Donald Trump won the 2106 election was his promotion of border wall construction to lower border crossings by illegals.
The new wall was not complete when Trump left office, as Democrats did everything possible to block funding once they took over Congress in 2018.
Then, when Biden took office, he killed the project, and materials were just left to rot in the elements, but now the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) says it will resume building the wall.
The wall
The border wall is not a be-all-end-all solution, but it clearly works as a deterrent and has helped lower border crossings, especially in areas where we do not have a lot of officers assigned.
With the project having been stalled for most of the last four years, DHS Secretary Kristi Noem is giving the green light to move forward again.
Noem just approved waivers that will allow an additional 36 miles of wall to be constructed.
The waivers will allow the wall to be constructed much quicker, bypassing some environmental regulations that would have hindered progress.
DHS Assistant Secretary Tricia McLaughlin stated, “DHS has been working at a neck-breaking speed to secure our border” and remove “criminal illegal aliens out of our country.”
Jonathan Lines, a Yuma County Supervisor and Chairman of the Border Security Alliance, was very happy that the project will be resuming.
He stated, “Today’s news is welcome here in Yuma, Arizona, where our community is still grappling with the consequences of the Biden-Harris Administration’s four years of open-border policies.”
Lines added, “We applaud President Trump’s commitment to border security, and we look forward to the completion of the wall across the entire southern border.”
He went on, “The border crisis is not yet over, and our federal government must continue to equip the Department of Homeland Security and U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents with the tools, technologies, and resources necessary to provide adequate national security to keep America safe.”
While Arizona currently has a Democrat governor, this is still a battleground state with a significant number of Republicans remaining in leadership positions, all of whom continue to support locking down these borders.
For instance, Arizona Senate President Warren Petersen stated, “Our border has never been safer or more secure, and we have the Trump Administration to thank for that.”
Petersen went on, “Finishing the wall is exactly what Arizonans voted for, and I’m pleased Secretary Noem is quickly carrying out President Trump’s mission to protect our citizens and strengthen our national security. Sanity and the rule of law are being restored in our nation.”
I would encourage the administration to move as quickly as possible because we have no idea what is going to happen in 2026. And if Dems take back either the House or Senate, everything will come to a complete halt.
