MIAMI, FL – A startling incident unfolded in northwest Miami-Dade on Friday when an elderly driver mistakenly accelerated into a T-Mobile store, prompting a swift emergency response and leaving the building in a precarious state. The driver, a man in his 70s, intended to make a routine bill payment but inadvertently pressed the gas pedal instead of the brake, resulting in a chaotic crash.
The aftermath of the crash painted a scene of destruction with shattered glass and twisted metal scattered across the site. A Volkswagen vehicle remained lodged inside the store hours after the incident, its presence a stark reminder of the unexpected turn of events. Despite the structural damage, the pillars and door frame of the store remarkably stayed intact.
Witnesses described the scene as one of confusion and alarm, with bystanders rushing to the site to assess the situation. “It was just chaos; everyone was scared and trying to understand what happened,” recalled a nearby resident. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among the store employees, who were not in the immediate vicinity of the crash.
The incident occurred near 176th Street and northwest 57th Avenue, marking the second vehicular mishap in the area within two days. Just a day prior, a similar accident took place at a Dunkin Donuts in Davie, where a car plowed into the establishment without causing any injuries, despite the busy morning rush.
Emergency services promptly transported the driver to a local hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Police officers on the scene noted that the driver was not feeling well at the time of the crash, which may have contributed to the accident.
