I think it is safe to say that the bromance between Elon Musk and Donald Trump is just about over.
While Trump has been hammering Congress to get it passed, Elon Musk has been hammering the bill publicly.
Debt limit scrapped
One of the key points of contention in the bill and some GOP Senators is Donald Trump wanting to extend the debt ceiling by as much as $5 trillion.
In the past, Senator Warren (D-MA) has advocated for the debt ceiling to be outright eliminated, usually when a Democrat was in office so they could spend away.
Now Trump says she got it right, stating, “I am very pleased to announce that, after all of these years, I agree with Senator Elizabeth Warren on SOMETHING. The Debt Limit should be entirely scrapped to prevent an Economic catastrophe.
“It is too devastating to be put in the hands of political people that may want to use it despite the horrendous effect it could have on our Country and, indirectly, even the World.”
Musk goes on the warpath
Musk has not held back his criticism of the bill, and it is starting to rattle some Republicans.
For instance, Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI) stated, “He didn’t make it any easier for the bill.”
Just as I predicted, with Musk coming out against the bill, the attacks against him are already starting within the GOP. For instance, Rep, Greg Murphy (R-NC) stated, “I don’t think he carries the same kind of gravitas that he did.”
Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) also pushed back, stating, “I want Elon and all my friends to recognize the complexity of what we’ve accomplished here. This extraordinary piece of legislation – record number of savings, record tax cuts for the American people and all the other benefits in it.”
“Kill Bill” meme
Musk has since ramped up his attacks with a “Kill Bill” meme posted to X, begging people to call their congressman to have the bill rejected.
He posted a picture, inserting himself in the “Kill Bill” movie poster, with the caption, “We need a new bill that doesn’t grow the deficit.”
He later posted, “Call your Senator, Call your Congressman, Bankrupting America is NOT ok! KILL the BILL.”
Musk has also directly called out all the Republicans who have supported this bill, stating, “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.” I warned everyone that when this bromance went south it would be a hot mess, and this is escalating very quickly.
